Preparation of nanosheets embedded ZnSe/Bi2Se3 core/shell quantum dots for the study of optical properties and antibacterial activity

P. Priyadarshini et al.

Summary: The cation exchange method was used to synthesize water dispersed ZnSe/Bi2Se3 core/shell quantum dots with varying Bi content, allowing for tunability in shell thickness and subsequently affecting structural and optical properties. The formation of Bi2Se3 shell was confirmed by shifting peak positions in XRD and Raman spectra, as well as shifting XPS peaks. Increasing shell thickness enhanced band edge absorption and decreased optical bandgap. Broad photoluminescence emission with multiple components was observed for all samples. The ZnSe/Bi2Se3 quantum dots showed good antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25,923).
