IL-33 and Soluble ST2 Are Associated With Recurrent Spontaneous Abortion in Early Pregnancy

Long Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the abnormal expression of cytokines in the process of inducing Recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA). The results showed that the serum concentrations of IL-33 and ST2 were significantly higher in the RSA group compared to the healthy control group. Additionally, the serum concentrations of IL-33 and ST2 were not significantly correlated with the number of weeks of pregnancy.

IL-33-ILC2 axis in the female reproductive tract

Jessica E. Miller et al.

Summary: IL-33 is a pleiotropic cytokine acting on various cell types, including ILC2s, to promote inflammation and regulate homeostasis. It has been implicated in a wide range of conditions, including asthma, allergy, and reproductive pathologies. This article summarizes the role of IL-33 and ILC2s in the female reproductive tract and healthy pregnancy, and explores their potential as therapeutic targets in reproductive disorders.

The Bradykinin System Contributes to the Regulation of Prostaglandin-Endoperoxide Synthase 2 Expression in Human Amnion Fibroblasts: Implications for Term and Preterm Birth

Xiao-tian Ni et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that bradykinin peptides are present in human amnion and are involved in the regulation of PTGS2 expression and PGE2 production in human amnion fibroblasts at both term and preterm birth, and this effect may be enhanced by infection.

Identification of a Feed-Forward Loop Between 15(S)-HETE and PGE2 in Human Amnion at Parturition

Fan Zhang et al.

Summary: Human parturition involves the mobilization of arachidonic acid (AA) and the synthesis of AA-derived eicosanoids, particularly prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), which plays a key role. This study identified another important AA-derived eicosanoid, 15(S)-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (15(S)-HETE), in the amnion and discovered a feed-forward loop between 15(S)-HETE and PGE2 in parturition. Targeting this loop may have therapeutic potential for the treatment of preterm birth.

PGE2 vs PGF2 alpha in human parturition

Wen-jiao Li et al.

Summary: PGE2 and PGF2 alpha play different roles in parturition, with PGE2 potentially more important for labor onset and PGF2 alpha possibly playing a key role in labor accomplishment, due to their differential effects in gestational tissues.

IL-33/ST2 promotes the malignant progression of gastric cancer via the MAPK pathway

Ning Huang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that ST2 was highly expressed in GC tissues. IL-33 promoted the proliferation and cell cycle progression of GC cells, inhibited apoptosis, and stimulated invasion and migration. However, transfection of ST2 siRNA attenuated the effects of IL-33. Moreover, IL-33-induced activation of ERK1/2, JNK and p38 was significantly inhibited by ST2 siRNA transfection.

C/EBPδ drives key endocrine signals in the human amnion at parturition

Jiang-Wen Lu et al.

Summary: The transcription factor C/EBPδ plays a critical role in inducing the expression of COX-2 and 11β-HSD1 in human amnion fibroblasts, ensuring their production for labor onset. The abundance of C/EBPδ in the amnion increases at term and further at parturition, with knockout of C/EBPδ in mice delaying the onset of labor. These findings suggest that the C/EBPδ pathway may serve as a potential pharmaceutical target for the treatment of pre-term labor.
