A novel multi-components hierarchical porous composite prepared from solid wastes for benzohydroxamic acid degradation

Mengke Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel Fe/C-Mn800 catalyst was prepared from EMR and SS, which exhibited excellent degradation ability towards BHA with low metal leaching rate. Mechanism exploration revealed that Fe and Mn served as electron acceptors and facilitated the generation of PFRs, leading to the production of ROS via the activation of PMS. The graphitic N and C=O groups on the catalyst improved its electronegativity and acted as electron sacrificers for electron transfer and direct oxidation of absorbed BHA.

Summary: A heterogeneous system of zero-valent Fe-Mn bimetallic nanoparticles mixed with biochar was developed to activate sulfite and improve the removal of sulfamethazine. The system showed high degradation efficiency due to the formation of active radicals, with biochar playing a crucial role as an electron shuttle and donor. In-situ activation of biochar also enhanced degradation by increasing surface area and pore volume. The system demonstrated excellent performance in degrading various organic pollutants in different water bodies.

Sulfite activation using FeO as a source of ferrous ions for fluoxetine degradation: A collaborated experimental and DFT study

Yiqun Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, FeO was used to construct an advanced oxidation process for sulfite (S(IV)) activation. The performance of the FeO/S(IV) system was investigated using the antidepressant fluoxetine (FLX) as the target. The results showed that up to 84.4% of FLX could be rapidly eliminated under optimized reaction conditions. The activation of S(IV) was found to be primarily attributed to the released Fe2+ from FeO. The study also proposed a degradation pathway for FLX and demonstrated the reusability and applicability of the FeO/S(IV) system in real water.

Magnetic Fe3S4/MoS2 with visible-light response as an efficient photo- Fenton-like catalyst: Validation in degrading tetracycline hydrochloride under mild pH conditions

Hu Zhou et al.

Summary: Magnetic Fe3S4/MoS2 composites with a visible light response were prepared and their degradation activity towards tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) was investigated. The results show that the Fe3S4/MoS2 composites exhibit much higher removal rate of TCH compared to pure Fe3S4 or MoS2 under different pH values. The proposed mechanism suggests that the high catalytic activity of the composites is attributed to the acidic microenvironment near the surface, reducing the production of ferric hydroxide sludge.
