Study of Boraginaceae plants for phytoremediation of oil-contaminated soil

Leonid Panchenko et al.

Summary: The study investigated the phytoremediation potential of Boraginaceae plants in oil-contaminated areas, highlighting the tolerance and remediation potential of N. pulla and E. vulgare. The research contributes to understanding differences in remediation potential at the family level and suggests monitoring pollutant degradation genes as a tool for identifying promising plants for cleaning up oil-contaminated soil.

Assessment of dynamic microbial community structure and rhizosphere interactions during bioaugmented phytoremediation of petroleum contaminated soil by a newly designed rhizobox system

Kwang Mo Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the rhizosphere effect of cowpea on microbial activities, population, and community structure in crude oil contaminated soil, with or without the plant-growth promoting bacteria (PGPB) M. luteus WN01. Results demonstrate that the interaction between cowpea and PGPB plays a positive role in promoting rhizodegradation of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) in oil contaminated soil.

Rhizosphere Colonization Determinants by Plant Growth-Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR)

Gustavo Santoyo et al.

Summary: Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) are an eco-friendly alternative to chemical use in agriculture, but their efficacy as bioinoculants can be compromised by low colonization capacity in the rhizosphere. To improve colonization, highly competitive strains should be prioritized in field trials. PGPR utilize various mechanisms such as recognizing chemical signals and producing antioxidants to successfully colonize the rhizosphere, as well as producing antimicrobial compounds to inhibit phytopathogenic microorganisms.

Petroleum hydrocarbon-contaminated soil bioremediation assisted by isolated bacterial consortium and sophorolipid

Leiyu Feng et al.

Summary: The use of indigenous bacterial consortium combined with biosurfactant can enhance the bioremediation efficiency of petroleum hydrocarbon-contaminated soil, reducing the half-life of TPH and improving its bioavailability. Biosurfactant stimulates microbial activities, accelerates the biodegradation process, and serves as an effective auxiliary method for the remediation of petroleum hydrocarbon-contaminated soil.

Remediation of Petroleum-Contaminated Soils with Microbial and Microbial Combined Methods: Advances, Mechanisms, and Challenges

Xin Sui et al.

Summary: The petroleum industry's development is driven by demand for petroleum and its by-products, but extraction and transportation processes may lead to soil contamination. Microbial remediation is a focus due to its convenience and low cost, although challenges such as inconsistent remediation effects and environmental consequences exist. Understanding pollutant sources, microbial degradation pathways, and influencing factors is crucial for selecting optimal remediation strategies.
