Fe and Co dual-doped Ni3S4 nanosheet with enriched high-valence Ni sites for efficient oxygen evolution reaction

Xiaoqing Mao et al.

Summary: Transition metal compound catalysts with high efficient and stable performance have attracted extensive attention of researchers. In this study, dual cation doped Ni3S4 nanosheets loaded on nickel foam were prepared by two step hydrothermal method. Co and Fe dual doping can induce the internal electronic interaction of the catalyst, thus exposing more active sites. The electrochemical test results show that Co and Fe doped Ni3S4 have better electrocatalytic performance for oxygen evolution than single cation doped and pure Ni3S4.

Non-noble metal-based amorphous high-entropy oxides as efficient and reliable electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction

Qianqian Wang et al.

Summary: In this work, a facile and scalable chemical reduction strategy is developed to synthesize FeCoNiPB non-noble metal-based amorphous high-entropy oxides for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline media. The FeCoNiPB oxides exhibit superior OER electrocatalytic efficiency and stability, outperforming other oxides and commercial catalysts. The unique amorphous high-entropy nanostructure, synergistic effect of the multiple components, and in situ-formed thin layer structure are the main reasons for the superior performance. This work provides new insights for the design and preparation of low-cost, highly efficient, and durable OER electrocatalysts.

Sulfur-vacancy rich nonstoichiometric TiS2-x/NiS heterostructures for superior universal hydrogen evolution

Jing Wu et al.

Summary: Water electrolysis is a promising approach to produce green hydrogen, but the full utilization of electrocatalysts for promoting hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is still challenging. In this study, a nonstoichiometric titanium sulfide/nickel sulfide (TiS2-x/NiS) hetero-catalyst was designed to induce high-density sulfur vacancies, resulting in excellent HER performance. The presence of sulfur vacancies regulates the electronic structure of active sites, leading to reduced energy barrier for water dissociation and optimized adsorption free energy for H* intermediates. This strategy provides a new way to design high-performance and cost-effective HER electrocatalysts in universal media.
