Soliton self-compression and resonant dispersive wave emission in higher-order modes of a hollow capillary fibre

Christian Brahms et al.

Summary: In this study, soliton self-compression and ultraviolet resonant dispersive wave emission in higher-order modes of a gas-filled hollow capillary fibre were investigated. Experimental results confirmed the theoretical predictions and revealed that the use of higher-order modes can suppress unwanted optical effects while allowing for higher pulse energy.

Spectroscopic application of few-femtosecond deep-ultraviolet laser pulses from resonant dispersive wave emission in a hollow capillary fibre

Nikoleta Kotsina et al.

Summary: By exploiting the phenomenon of resonant dispersive wave emission, we have achieved time-resolved photoelectron imaging measurements with extremely short temporal resolution, advancing the current state of the art in ultrafast photoelectron spectroscopy. Our research findings can contribute to a better understanding of ultrafast photochemical reactions and provide a novel approach for future spectroscopic applications.

Post-recombination effects in confined gases photoionized at megahertz repetition rates

J. R. Koehler et al.

Summary: Recombination-driven acoustic pulses and heating transiently alter the refractive index of a photoionized gas, affecting the performance of gas-based laser systems. By probing the refractive index changes in gases confined inside a capillary, the study observes thermal gas-density depressions, indicating potential temperature exceeding 1000 K. Strategies to mitigate these effects and improve system stability at high repetition rates are explored.

Intense few-cycle visible pulses directly generated via nonlinear fibre mode mixing

R. Piccoli et al.

Summary: The article discusses a technology for pulse compression using hollow-core fibers and identifies an unexplored mechanism for generating visible-light pulses with few cycles. Using a commercial ytterbium laser, they successfully convert few-hundred-femtosecond-long infrared pulses into single-cycle visible light pulses.

Scaling rules for high quality soliton self-compression in hollow-core fibers

Daniel Schade et al.

Summary: Soliton dynamics in noble gas-filled hollow-core fibers have been studied analytically, numerically, and experimentally. An optimal parameter region has been identified, considering higher-order dispersion, photoionization, self-focusing, and modulational instability. The effects of photoionization can be reduced by using lighter noble gases for single-shot pulses, but become more significant as the repetition rate increases. Lighter gases with higher pressure and longer diffusion times can enhance the long-term effects of ionization, illustrating the counter-intuitive nature of the predictions.

Timing and energy stability of resonant dispersive wave emission in gas-filled hollow-core waveguides

Christian Brahms et al.

Summary: The study shows that the energy noise of resonant dispersive waves can be significantly lower than that of pump pulses when the generation process is saturated, even while producing few-femtosecond pulses. Additionally, the arrival-time jitter of the generated pulses remains below one femtosecond even with a conservative estimate of pump pulse energy noise. Photoionisation and plasma dynamics can also enhance stability for certain generation conditions.
