Experiences of childhood weight management among Norwegian fathers of children with overweight or obesity - a qualitative interview study

Parent-child communication about weight: Priorities for parental education and support

Summary: This study explored the barriers, preferences, and differences in parent-youth perspectives on weight communication. The results showed that barriers to weight communication included discomfort, lack of knowledge, and the belief that weight doesn't need to be discussed. Parents desired guidance on navigating various weight-related topics with their children, while youth preferred supportive behaviors from their parents, such as avoiding criticism, increasing sensitivity, and focusing on healthy behaviors rather than weight. These findings highlight the need for education and interventions to promote supportive weight-related communication in families.
