CO2-Promoted and Nickel-Catalyzed Direct Hydroallylation of Terminal Alkynes with Allylic Alcohols: Access to 1,4-Dienes

Zeyu Zhang et al.

Summary: CO2-promoted and Ni-catalyzed direct hydroallylation of terminal alkynes with allylic alcohols has been achieved. Various 1,4-dienes could be synthesized in good yield with excellent Markovnikov selectivity for alkyl- and aryl-substituted terminal alkynes under mild reaction conditions. A gram-scale reaction gives considerable yield. Preliminary mechanistic studies support the reaction pathway through sequential carboxylation/allylnickelation/lithium bicarbonate nickelation/transmetalation in the hydroallylation of alkynes with allylic alcohols in the presence of CO2.

Near Field Scattering Optical Model-Based Catalyst Design for Artificial Photoredox Transformation

Ming-Yu Qi et al.

Summary: The sun provides a vast amount of clean and renewable energy, and the challenge lies in utilizing this decentralized energy with appropriate media. Plasmonic metal-based nanostructures, such as gold and silver, are fascinating materials for solar energy conversion due to their unique surface plasmon resonance (SPR) capability. Modulating the optical absorption peaks of nonplasmonic metals, like small platinum nanoparticles, without altering their size has been a grand challenge. Recently, a near field scattering (NFS) optical model was demonstrated to manipulate the absorption peaks of platinum nanoparticles by adjusting their dielectric environment, paving the way for tuning the optical absorption properties of other metal nanoparticles and semiconductor quantum dots.

Engineering Semiconductor Quantum Dots for Selectivity Switch on High-Performance Heterogeneous Coupling Photosynthesis

Ming-Yu Qi et al.

Summary: Semiconductor-based photoredox catalysis offers a sustainable and mild strategy for organic transformation, but controlling selectivity is challenging due to non-selective interactions between semiconductors and photogenerated radicals. By designing atomically dispersed cocatalysts on semiconductor quantum dots, we achieve precise selectivity in high-performance heterogeneous coupling photosynthesis. This work overcomes the difficulties of selectivity regulation in semiconductor-based photochemical synthesis, highlighting the potential of utilizing atomically dispersed cocatalysts to control unselective radical conversion for selective heterogeneous photosynthesis.
