Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as an effective corrosion inhibitor for Mg-8Li-3Al alloy in aqueous NaCl: A combined experimental and theoretical investigation

Honggun Song et al.

Summary: The corrosion inhibition behavior of Mg-8Li-3Al alloy in NaCl solution was studied using various experimental and computational techniques. It was found that the addition of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) effectively improved the corrosion resistance of the alloy. The formation of a dense SDS-adsorbed layer on the alloy surface was confirmed by SEM and SKPFM analysis. The study also explored the theoretical calculations of the separation energy and adsorption energy of SDS on the Mg surface, and proposed a corrosion inhibition mechanism.

Structured nanoporous copper catalysts prepared by laser powder bed fusion and dealloying for on-board methanol steam reforming

Chuandong Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a structured Cu-based catalyst with a body-centered cubic skeleton was prepared using laser powder bed fusion combined with a dealloying method. The catalytic performance of the 3D structured Cu-based catalyst is superior to those of reported catalysts with 93.6% methanol conversion and a CO concentration of less than 0.3%. Computational fluid dynamics simulations confirmed the excellent mass and heat transfer performance and low pressure drop of the 3D-structured copper-based catalyst. Structured Cu-based catalysts have great potential for applications in FCVs.

Synergistic corrosion inhibition effects of quaternary ammonium salt cationic surfactants and thiourea on Q235 steel in sulfuric acid: Experimental and theoretical research

Tianyu Zheng et al.

Summary: The corrosion resistance of Q235 steel treated with different corrosion inhibitors in sulfuric acid was studied. Results showed that DTAB-Thiourea and DDBAB-Thiourea have strong synergistic effects and can effectively inhibit corrosion. The adsorption forms of the inhibitors on the steel surface were investigated and explained using density functional theory.

A novel dealloying strategy for fabricating nanoporous Ag via ζ′-AgGa alloy

Zhongming Jiang et al.

Summary: A mild strategy was developed for fabricating nanoporous silver (np-Ag) through preparation of Ag-Ga alloys followed by electrochemical dealloying. The addition of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) resulted in the minimum pore size. This method provides a new strategy for the industrial production of np-Ag.

Time-dependent power law function for the post-dealloying chemical coarsening of nanoporous gold derived using small-angle X-ray scattering

Alexander K. Ng et al.

Summary: Dealloyed nanoporous gold spontaneously coarsens when exposed to moderate temperatures or non-inert gases or liquids at room temperature. This study focuses on post-dealloying chemical coarsening behavior of aged nanoporous gold samples in nitric acid at room temperature, revealing a time-dependent power law relationship between ligament size and coarsening time. The findings will guide the design of nanoporous gold with desired structure size for optimizing its (electro)chemical properties.

Synthesis and catalytical properties of hierarchical nanoporous copper from θ and η phases in CuAl alloys

Yan-Rung Su et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that nanoporous copper (NPC) has a higher current density for CO2 reduction reaction, 2-5 times higher than copper foil. The effect of ligament size on the current density is more pronounced, with the NPC with a ligament size of 76 nm obtaining peak current density. The product distribution indicates that NPC with a hierarchical structure has higher Faraday efficiency of ethylene compared to conventional NPC or copper foil at high overpotential.

Simultaneous Enhancement of Actuation Strain and Mechanical Strength of Nanoporous Ni-Mn Actuators

Chuan Cheng et al.

Summary: Introducing a secondary actuation metal into the primary actuation metal network can mitigate the negative effects of a large electrode surface area on actuation stability and mechanical strength. In the nanoporous Ni-Mn actuator, the redox reaction of Mn is more efficient than that of Ni, resulting in a reversible high strain.

Nanoporous gold-polypyrrole hybrid electrochemical actuators with tunable elasticity

Jie Li et al.

Summary: This study reveals a new phenomenon of reversible change in the elastic response of hybrid electrochemical actuators, attributed to the thickness of the polypyrrole layer. The interaction between polypyrrole and gold, as well as solvent intake, play crucial roles in determining the elastic properties of the material.
