Methanol is activated and used as the C1 source to cyclize with 2-aminobenzamides, resulting in a convenient cyclization reaction without the need for homogeneous metal catalysts, external oxidants, or bases. A wide variety of N,N-disubstituted 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones can be obtained via this approach.

By optimizing various factors including electrode material, substrate concentration, current density, solvent, electrolyte, and pH value, the authors achieved a high yield of the desired product and provided a methodology for the benign synthesis of N-containing species.
