Optical Saturation Produces Spurious Evidence for Photoinduced Superconductivity in K3C60

J. Steven Dodge et al.

Summary: The article discusses a systematic error in time-resolved optical conductivity measurements at high pump intensities. It is shown that optical nonlinearities can distort the photoconductivity depth profile and spectrum. Evidence is presented that this distortion exists in existing measurements on K3C60, and the article explains how it may create the appearance of photoinduced superconductivity where none exists. Similar errors may occur in other pump-probe spectroscopy measurements, and the article discusses methods to correct for them.

Terahertz pulse-driven collective mode in the nematic superconducting state of Ba1-xKxFe2As2

Romain Grasset et al.

Summary: We investigated the collective mode response of the iron-based superconductor Ba1-xKxFe2As2 using intense terahertz light. A THz Kerr signal was observed in the superconducting state and found to be remarkably sensitive to the coexistence of a nematic order.

Visualization and quantum control of light-accelerated condensates by terahertz multi-dimensional coherent spectroscopy

Martin Mootz et al.

Summary: Characterizing and controlling high-order correlation of quantum systems is key for developing quantum devices and switching technologies. In this article, the authors develop density matrix simulations to reveal light-induced correlations in non-equilibrium superconducting states by identifying seventh-order-wave-mixing peaks. They also propose the use of multi-dimensional spectroscopy for quantum sensing of light-driven superconductivity.

Amplification of Superconducting Fluctuations in Driven YBa2Cu3O6+x

A. von Hoegen et al.

Summary: In this study, it is shown that certain lattice vibrations in cuprate high-T-c superconductors can induce transient terahertz reflectivity features suggestive of nonequilibrium superconductivity above the critical temperature. Time-resolved measurements reveal a three-order-of-magnitude amplification of a 2.5-THz electronic mode in driven YBa2Cu3O6+x. Theoretical analysis explains these observations by proposing an amplification mechanism for finite-momentum Josephson plasma polaritons. The study also emphasizes the significance of nonlinear mode mixing in amplifying fluctuating modes above the transition temperature in a wide range of materials.

Periodic dynamics in superconductors induced by an impulsive optical quench

Light quantum control of persisting Higgs modes in iron-based superconductors

C. Vaswani et al.

Summary: The study identifies a hybrid Higgs mode in iron-based high-temperature superconductors and demonstrates its quantum control by light. The tunable coherent oscillation of the complex order parameter in these superconductors suggests the appearance and control of the Higgs mode through light tuning of interband interaction.

Scattering interference signature of a pair density wave state in the cuprate pseudogap phase

Shuqiu Wang et al.

Summary: The study detected the presence of a pair density wave (PDW) phase in the pseudogap phase of Bi2Sr2CaDyCu2O8, characterized by 8a(0)-periodic Delta modulations and Lambda scattering interference signatures. By visualizing the temperature evolution, the transition from the coexistence of PDW with superconductivity to a pure PDW state was observed.

Fluctuating Nature of Light-Enhanced d-Wave Superconductivity: A Time-Dependent Variational Non-Gaussian Exact Diagonalization Study

Yao Wang et al.

Summary: The study reveals that a specific type of light-enhanced superconductivity can enhance the d-wave superconductivity pairing correlation, but also finds that the pairing correlation length is heavily suppressed by the pump pulse, indicating that light-enhanced superconductivity may be of fluctuating nature. This implies a general behavior of nonequilibrium states with competing orders beyond the mean-field framework.

Light-induced enhancement of superconductivity in iron-based superconductor FeSe0.5Te0.5

Kazuki Isoyama et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the potential of light-matter interaction as a non-thermal tuning knob to enhance emergent orders, and the non-thermal control of quantum phases. By inducing a transient enhancement of superconductivity through light in an iron chalcogenide superconductor, it validates the Higgs mode response and ultrafast dynamics of two superfluid components.

Band-selective third-harmonic generation in superconducting MgB2: Possible evidence for the Higgs amplitude mode in the dirty limit

Sergey Kovalev et al.

Summary: The study reports time-resolved linear and nonlinear terahertz spectroscopy of the two-band superconductor MgB2 with a superconducting transition temperature around 36 K. By driving the system with intense narrow-band THz pulses, third-harmonic generation (THG) is observed below T-c, exhibiting resonance maximum at certain temperatures for different pump-pulse frequencies. The results suggest the predominant contribution of the driven Higgs amplitude mode of the dirty-limit pi-band superconducting gap, highlighting the importance of scattering for observation of the Higgs mode in superconductors.

Superconducting-like response in driven systems near the Mott transition

Zhehao Dai et al.

Summary: In this study, it is pointed out that fractionalized bosonic charge excitations can explain the photoinduced superconducting-like response in an organic metal close to the Mott transition. The pump laser exerts a periodic drive on the fractionalized field, creating a nonequilibrium condensate with a Drude peak, leading to the superconducting-like response. This proposal sheds light on alternative ways to detect fractionalization and can be tested in spin liquid candidates and cold atom systems.

Superconductinglike response in a driven gapped bosonic system

Zhehao Dai et al.

Summary: The proposed mechanism explains the photoinduced superconductinglike response in cuprates and other correlated materials by utilizing quantum-fluctuating bosons consisting of electron pairs. This new mechanism results in a coherent nonequilibrium condensate different from conventional superconductors, exhibiting superconductinglike response even with dissipation in some regimes. The presence of a resonant region in momentum space where complex eigenvalues exist offers a physical argument for why this picture leads to a perfect conductor with superconductinglike frequency-dependent conductivity but no Meissner response.
