Photothermal-Effect-Enhanced Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting in MXene-Nanosheet-Modified ZnO Nanorod Arrays

Xiaoyu Xie et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of MXene nanosheets as a bifunctional surface modifier for enhancing the performance of ZnO nanorod arrays in PEC water oxidation. The MXene nanosheets act as a hole transfer material and combine with ZnO nanorods to construct a heterojunction, inhibiting the recombination of photogenerated charges and improving charge separation. Additionally, the MXene nanosheets function as a photothermal material and generate heat under near-infrared irradiation, elevating the surface temperature of the photoanodes and accelerating charge transfer.

Hierarchically interconnected g-C3N4/BiVO4/ZnO array via spin coating for high photoelectrochemical performance

Eunseon Kang et al.

Summary: An interconnected g-C3N4/BiVO4/ZnO array system was constructed to enhance photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance by maximizing light absorbance and reducing charge recombination. The optimally decorated ZnO layer improves stability and carrier concentration, while the Z-scheme g-C3N4/BiVO4 heterojunction structure facilitates electron transfer and blocks hole recombination. The interconnected interfaces reduce contact resistance and promote charge transfer for improved PEC performance.
