Enhanced photoelectrochemical stability of Ta3N5 in the acidic electrolyte conditions

Sang Youn Chae et al.

Summary: The study reports the unexpectedly improved photoelectrochemical activity and stability of the Ta3N5 photoelectrode in acidic electrolytes. It reveals the oxidation mechanism of Ta3N5 surface as transpassivation, with suppressed surface oxidation rate under acidic pH conditions. The less formation of the passive layer at the Ta3N5 surface leads to improved photoelectrochemical activity and stability.

High adsorption and photocatalytic degradation abilities of amorphous Ta2O5 nanospheres under simulated solar light irradiation

Haitao Fu et al.

Summary: Crystallized and amorphous Ta2O5 nanospheres were successfully synthesized using a simple alcohol-thermal reaction method. By adjusting the PVP amount in the synthesis system, the particle sizes of amorphous Ta2O5 nanospheres were controlled. It was found that the amorphous Ta2O5 5PVP exhibited excellent adsorption and photocatalytic degradation performances towards methylene blue, due to its high specific surface area, extra O vacancies, enhanced visible light absorption, more photo-generated electrons and low charge transfer resistance.

Au@Cu2O Core-Shell and Au@Cu2Se Yolk-Shell Nanocrystals as Promising Photocatalysts in Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting and Photocatalytic Hydrogen Production

Ting-Hsuan Lai et al.

Summary: In this study, Au@Cu2O core-shell and Au@Cu2Se yolk-shell nanocrystals were used as photocatalysts in photoelectrochemical water splitting and photocatalytic hydrogen production. The enhanced charge separation and additional charge carrier generation were achieved through the combination of the Au core and shells, as well as the localized surface plasmon resonance effect of Au. The improved interfacial charge transfer resulted in higher photocurrent and photocatalytic activity compared to the pure counterpart samples.

Size effect of bifunctional gold in hierarchical titanium oxide-gold-cadmium sulfide with slow photon effect for unprecedented visible-light hydrogen production

Heng Zhao et al.

Summary: Gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) combined with semiconductors have been widely used for photocatalysis, but their effects in multicomponent photocatalysts are not fully understood. In this study, ternary titanium oxide-gold-cadmium sulfide (TiO2-Au-CdS, TAC) photocatalysts based on hierarchical TiO2 inverse opal photonic crystal structure were designed to investigate the synergistic effect of Au NPs' surface plasmonic resonance (SPR) effect and internal electron transfer ability. The TAC-10 photocatalyst demonstrated a remarkable hydrogen evolution rate and high apparent quantum yield under visible-light, showing promising potential for hydrogen production from visible-light driven water splitting.
