Impact of Adjuvant Treatment in pN3 Penile Cancer

P. Khurud et al.

Summary: Aim: This study aimed to determine suitable adjuvant treatment options for patients with locoregionally advanced penile cancer by reviewing the outcomes of pN3 patients. The impact of demographic, pathological, and treatment factors on disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival was assessed. Results showed that multimodality adjuvant treatment (a combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy) had the best DFS and overall survival rates for pN3 penile cancer patients with pelvic nodal involvement. Single modality treatment may be sufficient for inguinal nodes with extranodal extension. The study highlights the importance of personalized adjuvant treatment for these patients.

Effectiveness and safety of adjuvant chemotherapy compared to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in patients with penile cancer and positive lymph nodes regarding overall survival and free disease survival: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Juan Fernando Paz Rojas et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effectiveness of adjuvant chemotherapy compared with neoadjuvant chemotherapy in terms of overall survival and progression-free survival in node-positive penile cancer patients. The results showed no difference in overall survival, but a better response in progression-free survival with adjuvant chemotherapy. More studies with adequate design are needed to provide stronger recommendations.

Oncological therapy to Swedish men with metastatic penile cancer 2000-2015

Emma Ulvskog et al.

Summary: Penile cancer is a rare disease with poor prognosis when it spreads to multiple inguinal lymph nodes. This study in Sweden investigated the treatment and survival outcomes of men with metastatic penile cancer over a 15-year period. The use of oncological treatments with curative intent increased significantly during the study period, and survival was higher among men treated with curative intent.

Long-term multicentre experience of adjuvant radiotherapy for pN3 squamous cell carcinoma of the penis

Michael Ager et al.

Summary: The study presented long-term adjuvant radiotherapy outcomes in patients with pN3 squamous cell carcinoma of the penis treated at two UK centres. Results showed better survival outcomes with the application of a standard radiotherapy protocol, suggesting a role for adjuvant radiotherapy in managing patients with pN3 SCCp.
