Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in environmental matrices: Occurrence, fate, health impact, physio-chemical and bioremediation technology

Aris Ismanto et al.

Summary: Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) have adverse impacts on human and environmental well-being, being associated with diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular risk, behavioral disorders, autoimmune defects, and reproductive diseases. Conventional treatment methods are insufficient to fully remove EDCs from water, necessitating the use of advanced psychochemical and biological treatments. The lack of laws regarding acute concentration limits of EDCs in various water sources contributes to the intensified concerns about these mixed contaminants. Further data is needed to address the risks associated with the presence of EDCs in the environment.

Facile synthesis of CoFe2O4@BC activated peroxymonosulfate for p- nitrochlorobenzene degradation: Matrix effect and toxicity evaluation

Zejian Zhi et al.

Summary: p-Nitrochlorobenzene (p-NCB), a persistent, carcinogenic and mutagenic compound, was efficiently degraded by a magnetic catalyst CoFe2O4@Biochar (CoFe2O4@BC) activated peroxymonosulfate (PMS). The CoFe2O4@BC/PMS system effectively removed p-NCB by generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) and dechlorination process. Additionally, the presence of certain ions affected the degradation efficiency. This method shows great potential in remediating p-NCB pollution in water and soil.

Qingchen Deng et al.

Summary: In this study, a metal-organic framework interfacing layered double hydroxide composite was synthesized and used to activate peroxymonosulfate for levofloxacin degradation. The composite catalyst demonstrated superior performance, showing a higher reaction rate constant compared to previous reports. The catalyst also exhibited broad adaptability to solution pH and showed practicality and stability. By exposing more active sites and enhancing electron transfer rate, the catalyst promoted the generation of reactive oxygen species, contributing to the degradation of levofloxacin.
