In Vitro Study of the Anti-inflammatory and Antifibrotic Activity of Tannic Acid-Coated Curcumin-Loaded Nanoparticles in Human Tenocytes

Summary: This study developed acetalated-dextran nanoparticles (AcDEX NPs) loaded with curcumin and coated with tannic acid (TA) for the treatment of tendinitis. The nanoparticles showed good stability and interaction with human tenocytes and macrophages due to the TA coating. The curcumin-loaded particles exhibited anti-inflammatory properties, while the TA-coated particles showed anti-fibrotic effects. Overall, the nanosystem has promising properties for future application in tendinitis.

Microencapsulation of functional ovalbumin and bovine serum albumin with polylysine-alginate complex for sustained protein vehicle's development

Summary: The study focused on overcoming the challenges bioactive proteins face in the harsh gastric environment, utilizing microencapsulation as a strategy to protect them. Bovine serum albumin and ovalbumin were used as model proteins, with a polylysine-alginate complex fabricated for microencapsulation. Results showed that the protein-loaded microcapsules exhibited excellent tolerability to the acidic gastric environment, with slow release in simulated gastric fluids and sustained release in intestinal fluids. The developed microcapsules could potentially be used as a vehicle for bioactive proteins in functional foods, health care products, and medical formulations.

Microfluidic approach to produce emulsion-filled alginate microgels

These results demonstrate the potential of microfluidic processes for encapsulating lipophilic compounds in microgels.
