Comprehensive test of nuclear level density models

Stephane Goriely et al.

Summary: This study provides a systematic comparison between Oslo data and six global level density models. The constant-temperature model presents the best global description of the Oslo data, followed by the mean-field plus combinatorial model and Hartree-Fock plus statistical model. All models show similar accuracies when considering energies above the experimental level scheme threshold. The shape method has the potential to improve the situation, but further analysis is needed before drawing conclusions on the general quality of a given nuclear level density model.

New α-Emitting Isotope 214U and Abnormal Enhancement of α-Particle Clustering in Lightest Uranium Isotopes

Z. Y. Zhang et al.

Summary: By combining experimental data, improved alpha-decay reduced widths for even-even Po-Pu nuclei near the magic neutron number N = 126 were deduced. It was found that the reduced widths of (214,216)U were significantly enhanced by a factor of two in certain conditions, indicating abnormal enhancement in specific nuclei under study.
