Brain metastasis detection using machine learning: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Se Jin Cho et al.

Summary: The study systematically reviewed the performance and quality of machine-learning-based brain metastasis detection on MRI, finding that deep learning group had comparable detectability with a lower false-positive rate compared to classical machine learning group. Improvement is needed in terms of study design and quality.

A systematic review of craniospinal irradiation for leptomeningeal disease: past, present, and future

L. Maillie et al.

Summary: Purpose Leptomeningeal disease (LMD) is a rare and deadly complication of cancer where the disease spreads to the cerebrospinal fluid. Craniospinal irradiation (CSI) is used as a palliative therapy for LMD. This review analyzed the role of CSI in treating LMD in adults with solid and hematological malignancies, finding that marrow-sparing proton CSI may provide safer palliative care for select patients.

Leptomeningeal disease and neurologic death after surgical resection and radiosurgery for brain metastases: A multi-institutional analysis

Roshan S. Prabhu et al.

Summary: Postoperative stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for brain metastases is associated with up to a 30% risk of subsequent leptomeningeal disease (LMD). The radiographic patterns of LMD and failure after salvage treatment are significantly associated with a higher risk of neurologic death (ND). Patients with nodular LMD treated with salvage focal cranial RT had similar ND rates compared to those treated with whole-brain RT.
