Effect of Native Aortic Leaflet Geometry Modification on Transcatheter Aortic Valve Neo-sinus and Aortic Sinus Flow: An In-vitro Study

Beatrice E. Ncho et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of aortic leaflet geometry modification on the flow stagnation in the neo-sinus and aortic sinus after simulated TAVR. The results showed that leaflet geometry modification reduced flow stagnation in both regions and potentially decreased the risk of valve thrombosis.

An In-Vitro Study of the Flow Past a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Using Time-Resolved 3D Particle Tracking

Huang Chen et al.

Summary: The performance of a transcatheter aortic valve (TAV) can be evaluated by analyzing the flow field downstream of the valve using time-resolved 3D particle tracking velocimetry. This experimental study provides a comprehensive 3D measurement of the flow field downstream of an Edwards SAPIEN 3 using the Shake-the-Box algorithm. The results show the importance of considering the flow downstream of the valve to evaluate the risk of leaflet thrombosis.

Characterization of Turbulent Flow Behind a Transcatheter Aortic Valve in Different Implantation Positions

Leonardo Pietrasanta et al.

Summary: The development of turbulence after transcatheter aortic valve (TAV) implantation may negatively affect the long-term performance and durability of the valves. This study investigated the turbulent flow generated after TAV implantation using experimental and velocimetry techniques. The results suggest that the degree of expansion of the TAV in-situ is related to the onset of turbulence and that a smaller and less regular opening area might introduce flow instabilities that could be detrimental for the long-term performance of the valve.

Hemodynamics inside the neo- and native sinus after TAVR: Effects of implant depth and cardiac output on flow field and coronary flow

Desiree Pott et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of different prosthesis implant depths on flow field within the neo- and native sinuses and coronary perfusion following TAVR surgery. The results showed that a lower implant position and lower cardiac output led to better washout in the native sinus, while a higher implant position improved coronary flow. The study concluded that the choice of implant position impacts flow dynamics and coronary perfusion post-TAVR.

In-Vitro Assessment of the Effects of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Leaflet Design on Neo-Sinus Geometry and Flow

Summary: Shorter transcatheter aortic valve leaflet length is associated with reduced particle residence time and flow stagnation in the neo-sinus, potentially lowering the risk of leaflet thrombosis.

Systematic Approach to High Implantation of SAPIEN-3 Valve Achieves a Lower Rate of Conduction Abnormalities Including Pacemaker Implantation

Yasser Sammour et al.

Summary: The study showed that using a high deployment technique for the S3 valve can significantly reduce conduction abnormalities and permanent pacemaker requirement after transcatheter aortic valve replacement. The novel technique consistently achieves higher implantation without compromising procedural safety or valve hemodynamics in a cohort of 1028 patients.

Neosinus and Sinus Flow After Self-Expanding and Balloon-Expandable Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement

Hoda Hatoum et al.

Summary: This study evaluated flow dynamics in the aortic sinus and the neosinus after transcatheter heart valve implantation in valve-in-valve procedures. The results showed substantial differences in flow dynamics among different transcatheter heart valve types after valve-in-valve procedures, with self-expanding supra-annular valves demonstrating faster washouts compared to balloon-expandable valves of equivalent size.
