The risk factors of intracerebral hemorrhage in deep brain stimulation: does target matter?

Hong Kyung Shin et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively investigated the incidence of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) during deep brain stimulation (DBS) and identified the risk factors associated with ICH. The results showed that systolic blood pressure (BP) during surgery was a risk factor for all cases of ICH, while the target location and systolic BP during surgery were specifically associated with ICH causing permanent neurological deficit.

Neurostimulation for Functional Recovery After Traumatic Brain Injury: Current Evidence and Future Directions for Invasive Surgical Approaches

Jakov Tiefenbach et al.

Summary: This article provides a comprehensive review of the current scientific evidence on the use of invasive neurostimulation for the treatment of deficits associated with traumatic brain injury (TBI). The study highlights the promising potential of neurostimulation in improving cognitive and motor functions, relieving symptoms and supporting emotional adjustment in TBI patients. However, the current literature is limited and further research is needed to identify optimal stimulation targets and paradigms, as well as to explore the impact of biological variables on treatment outcomes.

Deep brain stimulation in patients on chronic antiplatelet or anticoagulation treatment

Joachim Runge et al.

Summary: Deep brain stimulation surgery in patients on chronic antiplatelet or anticoagulation treatment is feasible with no increased risk of hemorrhage in the first year of follow-up. Appropriate patient selection and standardized perioperative management are necessary to reduce the risk of intracranial hemorrhage and thromboembolic complications.
