Epidemiological and clinical characteristics of patients with monkeypox in the GeoSentinel Network: a cross-sectional study

Summary: The early epidemiology of monkeypox in non-endemic countries differs significantly from endemic countries. This study describes the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of confirmed monkeypox cases. It found that the majority of cases were among men who have sex with men, with a proportion of them having HIV infection. These individuals had multiple sexual partners in the 21 days before symptom onset and exhibited different symptoms during their HIV infection.

First Case of Human Brucella canis Infection in the Netherlands

Summary: This study found that a patient exposed to infected dogs in a breeding facility was diagnosed with Brucella canis infection. The transboundary spread of B. canis through (illegal) import of infected dogs to non-endemic countries in Europe suggests the need to consider B. canis infection in European patients with occupational exposure to dogs.

Summary: We analyzed national registry data on 26 autochthonous cases of Francisella tularensis subspecies holarctica infection in the Netherlands since 2011 to determine the transmission modes. Our findings suggest that terrestrial animals are the predominant source of transmission, followed by aquatic animals. We recommend prioritizing disease-risk communication towards hunters, recreationists, and outdoor professionals.
