Understanding tourists' protection motivations when faced with overseas travel after COVID-19: the case of South Koreans travelling to China

Guanghui Qiao et al.

Summary: This study examined the impact of COVID-19 on international tourists' self-protection motivations, highlighting the importance of perceptions of pandemic severity and self-efficacy as key factors. Furthermore, positive mass media coverage was found to enhance the relationship between self-efficacy and self-protection motivation, while negative coverage strengthened the link between vulnerability and self-protection motivation.

Hope, fear, and consumer behavioral change amid COVID-19: Application of protection motivation theory

Jiyoung Kim et al.

Summary: This study used Protection Motivation Theory to investigate the impact of cognitive assessment and emotional response on customers' behavioral intentions during COVID-19 in restaurant settings. The research highlighted the relationships between protection motivation, hope, and fear, as well as the emergence of various consumer behavioral intentions. Through an online survey and structural equation modeling, the study validated the proposed model and suggested its applicability in consumer behavior research in the hospitality industry.

Summary: The study indicates that constructs from the Health Belief Model are associated with vaccination willingness for COVID-19, and significant differences exist among different groups in terms of vaccination attitudes and beliefs. Governments and travel authorities must leverage effective communication mechanisms in implementing policies.

Horizon scan of rapidly advancing coral restoration approaches for 21st century reef management

David J. Suggett et al.

Summary: Coral reef restoration activities are being accelerated worldwide to counter the decline in reef health. Many innovative restoration practices have been developed, focusing on coral biology and aiming to enhance the resilience of reefs. These practices include assisted evolution, biobanking, and scalable coral propagation. The scaling up of these practices requires validation through further research and monitoring, but they have already contributed to a better understanding of coral biology.

Toward the science of message design approach [emotional appeals version]: The combined effects of anticipated pride appeals and descriptive norm information embedded in messages on behavioral intentions

Hyeseung Koh

Summary: The current study replicated prior research to clarify the mixed findings by creating anticipated pride appeals and embedding them into standard descriptive norms messages. In an online experiment, U.S. adults were recruited and exposed to two similar messages. The results showed that exposure to emotional descriptive norm messages influenced intentions by eliciting the desired emotional response, consistent with prior research findings.

Impact of COVID-19 pandemic on consumer behavioural intention to purchase green products

Ping Hu et al.

Summary: This study examined the impact of fear of the COVID-19 pandemic on consumer behavioral intention to purchase green products. The results revealed that this fear significantly influences health concerns, social media information, intolerance of uncertainty, and personal relevance, which in turn affect the intention to purchase green products. The findings highlight the importance of understanding the fluctuation in green product purchase behavior due to the ongoing uncertainty of the COVID-19 crisis.

Perspectives on the Use of Coral Reef Restoration as a Strategy to Support and Improve Reef Ecosystem Services

Margaux Y. Hein et al.

Summary: Coral reef restoration is recognized as a valuable tool to support resilience in the face of increasing disturbances associated with climate change at local scales with limited coral recruitment. However, evidence of long-term ecological success remains limited, and ongoing investments in research and development are crucial to improve methods. It is important to recognize that coral reef restoration is not a standalone solution and should be applied carefully in conjunction with other reef resilience management strategies.
