Effect of the rc-bridge on the light absorption and emission in push-pull coumarins and on their supramolecular organization

Edgar Gonzalez-Rodriguez et al.

Summary: This study synthesized a family of eight RC-extended push-pull coumarins with different types of bridges and investigated their UV-Visible light absorption and emission spectra. The different bridges exhibited distinct behaviors during excited-state relaxation and fluorescence, with potential applications as building blocks for low reorganization energy p-type semiconductors. Solid-state self-assembly and supramolecular organization were also examined, revealing different crystalizing behaviors based on the nature of the bridges.

Copper-catalyzed deacetonative Sonogashira coupling

Yury N. Kotovshchikov et al.

Summary: A convenient protocol for assembling internal alkynes from tertiary propargyl alcohols and (het)aryl halides has been developed, using Pd- and phosphine-free catalysts. The method involves the base-promoted retro-Favorskii fragmentation and Cu-catalyzed C(sp)-C(sp(2)) cross-coupling. The procedure is practical and cost-effective, as it uses inexpensive reagents and exhibits good functional group tolerance.

Transition Metal Oxide-Modified Ir Nanoparticles Supported on SBA-15 Silica for Selective Hydrogenation of Substituted Nitroaromatics

Hongbo Yu et al.

Summary: The synthesis of highly reactive and stable metal-metal oxide hybrid nanocatalysts by confining presynthesized IrM bimetallic nanoparticles in mesopores of SBA-15 and transforming them in situ to Ir-MOx hybrids has shown superior activity and selectivity in the hydrogenation of substituted nitroaromatics. Among these catalysts, Ir-FeOx/SBA-15 exhibits the highest activity and selectivity, with a wider substrate scope due to the interaction between Ir and FeOx.

Site-Selective Silver-Catalyzed C-H Bond Deuteration of Five-Membered Aromatic Heterocycles and Pharmaceuticals

Adrian Tlahuext-Aca et al.

Summary: A new phosphine-ligated, silver-carbonate complex catalyst has been developed for the site-selective deuteration of C-H bonds in five-membered aromatic heterocycles and active pharmaceutical ingredients. The reactions occur using CH3OD as a low-cost source of the isotope and show tolerance towards a wide range of functional groups in both polar and nonpolar solvents. Mechanistic experiments support C-H bond cleavage from a phosphine-ligated, silver-carbonate intermediate as the rate-determining step of the catalytic cycle.

Divergent Gold Catalysis: Unlocking Molecular Diversity through Catalyst Control

Chetan C. Chintawar et al.

Summary: Gold complexes have emerged as powerful catalysts in divergent catalysis, offering unique reactivity profiles due to their tunable soft pi-acidic nature. They not only catalyze reactions of alkynes, alkenes, and allenes effectively, but also provide divergent reaction pathways over other pi-acid catalysts like Ag, Pt, Pd, Rh, Cu, In, Sc, Hg, Zn, etc. Reviews documenting such examples are sporadic, hindering the further development of this burgeoning field, thus necessitating a unified approach like Divergent Gold Catalysis (DGC) to consolidate reports and pave the way for advancement.

Summary: Gold complexes are favored catalysts for functionalization reactions of C-C multiple bonds due to their carbophilic nature, and efforts to achieve less accessible cross-coupling reactivity have led to the development of Au(i)/Au(iii) redox cycle. The interplay of carbophilic activation and Au(i)/Au(iii) catalysis in gold catalysis has allowed the development of a novel mechanistic paradigm for 1,2-difunctionalization reactions of various C-C multiple bonds.
