Innovative Information Technology in Auditing: Auditors' Perceptions of Future Importance and Current Auditor Expertise

Cristiano Feliciano et al.

Summary: Innovative information technology (IT) plays a vital role in improving the effectiveness and efficiency of audits, but current auditor expertise in IT is insufficient. German auditors perceive most of the analyzed IT technologies as crucial in the next three to five years, with online meeting solutions and data mining being rated the highest in importance. However, their self-assessment of knowledge in these technologies is low. The study also reveals that female auditors and auditors from the Big 4 firms consider IT as more important, while younger auditors and those from the Big 4 firms rate their own knowledge higher. Overall, intensive educational efforts are needed to bridge the gap between importance and knowledge.

Shedding light on blind spots-Developing a reference architecture to leverage video data for process mining

Wolfgang Kratsch et al.

Summary: Process mining is a highly active research field in business process management. This study proposes a reference architecture called ViProMiRA to bridge the gap between computer vision and process mining, enabling the systematic usage of video data in process analysis. The results show that the prototypical implementation of ViProMiRA can automatically extract over 70% process-relevant events from real-world video datasets.
