Au and Pt Remain Unoxidized on a CeO2-Based Catalyst during the Water-Gas Shift Reaction

Tomas R. Reina et al.

Summary: In this study, it was demonstrated using in situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy that both Au and Pt remain unoxidized during the water-gas shift (WGS) reaction, with significant differences in their dynamics under WGS atmospheres. While Pt undergoes restructuring into metallic particles, Au nanoparticles experience particle splitting and agglomeration processes, maintaining a zero oxidation state throughout the reaction.

Summary: In this study, the mechanism of propane oxidation and dehydrogenation over supported vanadia catalysts was investigated. Two different mechanisms for propene formation were identified, and the interaction between vanadia species and the ceria support was studied.

Investigation of the evolution of Pd-Pt supported on ceria for dry and wet methane oxidation

Nuria J. Divins et al.

Summary: The authors demonstrate that mechanically prepared Pd-Pt supported on ceria catalysts can effectively abate methane, even under wet conditions. By applying a toolkit of in situ synchrotron techniques, they show that the synthesis method greatly influences the interaction and structure at the nanoscale. They also find that the unique structures attained by milling are key for the catalytic activity and correlate with higher methane conversion and longer stability in the wet feed.

Gas Phase Glycerol Valorization over Ceria Nanostructures with Well-Defined Morphologies

Louise R. Smith et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of different morphologies of ceria catalysts on the distribution of reaction products from glycerol solutions, finding that polyhedral ceria samples exhibited the highest methanol production. Surface area and acidity were identified as factors contributing to low glycerol conversion over cubic ceria. Rodlike and polyhedral catalysts produced a major intermediate, hydroxyacetone, with higher selectivity compared to cubic ceria, leading to increased methanol yields.

Toward an Atomic-Level Understanding of Ceria-Based Catalysts: When Experiment and Theory Go Hand in Hand

Marc Ziemba et al.

Summary: Ceria plays a crucial role in enhancing oxidation activity in catalysts, but identifying active sites remains a challenge. Recent studies have made significant progress in understanding the process of oxygen activation on ceria surfaces through a combination of experimental and theoretical approaches. The facet-dependent adsorption and activation of gas-phase oxygen on ceria has been revealed, providing important insights into the mechanisms involved.

The effects of ceria loading on three-way catalysts for passive SCR operation

Calvin R. Thomas et al.

Summary: The study found that a suitable amount of ceria in the Pd/CeOx/Al2O3 catalyst was beneficial for promoting essential reactions, while excess ceria had a negative impact on oxygen storage capacity. Additionally, potential reaction pathways for ammonia production were determined by the research.
