Synthesis, characterization, and evaluation of thiocarbazide-functionalized maleic-based polymer for thorium (IV) removal from aqueous solutions

Mohammed F. Hamza et al.

Summary: The copolymerization of maleic anhydride with N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide allowed the synthesis of a sorbent (MaMb) that can be functionalized by amidoacidification (for grafting thiocarbazide) (synthesis of TcMaMb). Both sorbents were tested for the removal of thorium from aqueous solutions in batch systems. Characterization of the materials showed similar textural properties and the involvement of amine, carboxylic, and thiocarbonyl groups in the binding of Th(IV). The functionalization doubled the maximum sorption capacity and improved the selectivity of the sorbents.

Adsorption of Gentian violet dye onto mesoporous aluminosilica monoliths: nanoarchitectonics and application to industrial wastewater

Ghaferah H. Al-Hazmi et al.

Summary: This research demonstrates the ability of cubic Ia3d aluminosilica (CAS) adsorbent to remove cationic dye Gentian violet (GV) from aqueous solutions. The CAS adsorbent showed high adsorption capacity and followed pseudo-second-order kinetic. The adsorption of GV onto CAS adsorbent was dominated by electrostatic attraction forces, hydrogen bonding, ion-exchange, and pore filling. The CAS adsorbent showed good recyclability and regenerability.
