Online Monitoring of the Concentrations of Amorphous and Crystalline Mesoscopic Species Present in Solution

Byeongho Ahn et al.

Summary: This study successfully used depolarized light sheet microscopy to achieve time-resolved measurements of concentrations of amorphous and crystalline mesospecies in solutions, demonstrating the importance of mesospecies formation and the reliability of the measurement method under different experimental conditions. The results revealed that the direct measurement of crystal nucleation rates in solutions at different levels of supersaturation showed reasonable agreement with the predictions of classical nucleation theory.

An experimental and theoretical study of the inward particle drift in contact line deposits

Dinesh Parthasarathy et al.

Summary: This article investigates the inward drift of a coffee stain, a phenomenon caused by the descent of the water-air interface of a drying drop due to solvent evaporation. The study examines the effect of particle diameter, substrate wettability, and particle concentration on the inward drift of the coffee stain through experiments and model predictions. Additionally, a novel method to estimate the coefficient of friction between particles and the substrate is proposed.

A Review of Experimental Methods for Nucleation Rate Determination in Large-Volume Batch and Microfluidic Crystallization

Cedric Devos et al.

Summary: Determination of the experimental nucleation rate for crystallization in solution is crucial for improving industrial crystallization processes and understanding nucleation mechanisms. While large-volume batch crystallizer models have been widely studied in the past, recent developments in microfluidic platforms have opened new pathways for understanding nucleation on a molecular level.

Nucleation kinetics for primary, secondary and ultrasound-induced paracetamol crystallization

Cedric Devos et al.

Summary: Nucleation kinetics play a crucial role in the design and control of crystallization processes. Understanding the impact of crystallization conditions on different nucleation mechanisms and overall nucleation kinetics is essential for improved control over the process. The study compares the nucleation kinetics for primary, secondary, and ultrasound-induced paracetamol crystallization to evaluate the influence of nucleation mechanism on kinetic and thermodynamic parameters.
