Oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) potential to remediate Cd contaminated soil under different soil water content

Inesa Kniuipyt et al.

Summary: Changes in soil moisture content have significant impacts on plant growth and contaminant behavior in the soil. Oilseed rape shows tolerance and efficiency in removing Cd contamination from the soil, but high Cd concentrations hinder its growth and reduce removal efficiency. Soil moisture content regulates the growth of oilseed rape and the accumulation and removal of Cd, with optimal moisture content resulting in the highest removal efficiency.

Ascertaining and Optimizing the Water Footprint and Sludge Management Practice in Steel Industries

Atun Roy Choudhury et al.

Summary: Steelmaking is a water-intensive process, generating complex wastewater and hazardous sludge. The wastewater contains polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), cyanide, ammonia, acids, benzene, toluene, xylene, oil, grease, etc. The sludge can be treated using physicochemical and membrane-based systems. Various global practices for sludge recycling and management are summarized and ranked using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP).

Enhanced phytoremediation of hexavalent chromium contamination in phosphate mining wasteland by a phosphate solubilizing bacterium

Yunting Zheng et al.

Summary: The use of phosphate solubilizing bacterial strain Bacillus megaterium PMW-03 can enhance the phytoremediation of Cr(VI) contamination by Pteris vittata in phosphate mining wasteland. The strain promotes phosphate rock (PR) solubilization and Cr(VI) removal by Pteris vittata. Additionally, the strain also promotes the growth of Pteris vittata and influences the concentration of soluble phosphate and Cr(VI) in roots and shoots. Metagenomic analysis indicates changes in biological community structure and activation of genes contribute to the microbial-phytoremediation of Cr(VI) contamination.
