Early Vascular Aging in Obese Individuals with Low Cardiovascular Health

Summary: This study aimed to compare vascular function, central hemodynamics, and autonomic modulation in obese individuals with low and moderate CVH-L8. The results showed that the low CVH-L8 group had higher peripheral and central blood pressures, higher pulse wave velocity, and poorer brachial endothelial function. In addition, only in the low CVH-L8 group, the LF/HF ratio was significantly correlated with PWV and atherogenic index of plasma, indicating early vascular aging and endothelial dysfunction.

The linear association between arterial stiffness and BMI remains significant in females but not in males, indicating gender differences in the impact of obesity on cardiovascular health. Our results suggest that female gender is associated with higher susceptibility of weight-related arterial stiffening and rise in blood pressure.
