Regulation of Staphylococcus aureus Virulence and Application of Nanotherapeutics to Eradicate S. aureus Infection

Kannappan Arunachalam et al.

Summary: Staphylococcus aureus is a versatile pathogen that causes various infections. It is important to understand its pathogenesis and develop new treatment strategies, especially against drug-resistant strains. Nanomaterials offer a potential solution to control S. aureus infections, including intracellular parasitism and multidrug resistance. This review focuses on the impact of S. aureus on human health, the role of virulence factors and biofilms, the applications of nanoparticles in controlling infections, and the prospects and limitations of nanomaterial-based therapies.

Synergistic antibacterial activity and mechanism of action of nisin/carvacrol combination against Staphylococcus aureus and their application in the infecting pasteurized milk

Qingxiang Li et al.

Summary: This study detected the synergistic antibacterial effect of nisin and carvacrol, showing that the combination had better antibacterial activity against S. aureus compared to individual use and reduced the dosage of antibacterials. The combination could completely kill S. aureus within 8 hours, inhibit biofilm formation, and increase intracellular antibacterial level. In addition, the combination treatment effectively inhibited microbial reproduction in pasteurized milk.

Cost of Hospitalizations for Leading Foodborne Pathogens in the United States: Identification by International Classification of Disease Coding and Variation by Pathogen

Satvinder Dhaliwal et al.

Summary: Foodborne illness is a major public health issue in the United States, with seven main pathogens identified. The method of estimating hospitalization costs can be influenced by the use of different diagnosis codes and the severity of the pathogen. The study found that hospitalization costs vary significantly depending on the pathogen involved.

Biofilms as Promoters of Bacterial Antibiotic Resistance and Tolerance

Cristina Uruen et al.

Summary: Multidrug resistant bacteria pose a global threat, but only partially contribute to antibiotic failure. Another factor is the formation of biofilms, which provide an environment that allows bacteria to develop tolerance and resistance to antibiotics.
