Effective Improvement of the Oxidative Stability of Acer truncatum Bunge Seed Oil, a New Woody Oil Food Resource, by Rosemary Extract

Yue Qi et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the effects of rosemary extract on the oxidation stability of Acer truncatum seed oil (Aoil). The results showed that rosemary crude extract, rosmarinic acid, and carnosic acid can significantly inhibit the oxidation of Aoil, with carnosic acid exhibiting the best oxidative stability. The antioxidant ability of carnosic acid was slightly weaker than that of tert-butylhydroquinone, but stronger than butylated hydroxyanisole, butylated hydroxytoluene, and alpha-tocopherol.

The Polyphenolic Profile and Antioxidant Activity of Five Vegetal Extracts with Hepatoprotective Potential

Liliana Costea et al.

Summary: Oxidative stress is a major factor in human functional disorders, and this study aimed to obtain standardized plant extracts containing active compounds that protect liver cells against free radicals. The extracts were analyzed to identify and quantify therapeutic compounds using UHPLC-HRMS/MS. The extracts contained various flavonoids, phenolic acids, and polyphenols. In vitro experiments confirmed the extracts' antioxidant activity, and a correlation was found between the content of polyphenolic compounds and the antioxidant effect. The extracts also showed hepatoprotective potential in silico. This study validates the use of these extracts in phytotherapy due to their ability to reduce oxidative stress and protect liver cells.

Harnessing the Therapeutic Potential of the Nrf2/Bach1 Signaling Pathway in Parkinson's Disease

Manuj Ahuja et al.

Summary: Parkinson's disease is a common neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the loss of dopaminergic neurons. Although the exact cause is unclear, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, neuroinflammation, and disruption of calcium homeostasis have been proposed as contributing factors. While drugs targeting these pathways have shown promise in preclinical models, a more effective therapeutic approach involving the activation of the Nrf2/Bach1 signaling pathway is being explored. This review discusses the potential benefits of simultaneously inhibiting Bach1 and stabilizing Nrf2 for the treatment of Parkinson's disease.
