Stable Wireless Power Transmission for a Capsule Robot With Randomly Changing Attitude

Massive Wireless Energy Transfer: Enabling Sustainable IoT Toward 6G Era

Summary: Recent advances in wireless energy transfer (WET) have made it a promising solution for powering future Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices in the upcoming sixth-generation (6G) era. This article overviews the main architectures, challenges, and techniques for efficient and scalable wireless powering, outlines candidate enablers, and emphasizes the importance of suitable strategies for powering a massive number of devices using channel state information (CSI)-limited/free strategies. The benefits of combining distributed antenna systems (DAS) and energy beamforming (EB) are illustrated, as well as the pros and cons of state-of-the-art CSI-free WET techniques in ultralow power setups, with possible future enhancements outlined. Key research directions towards realizing WET-enabled massive IoT networks in the 6G era are identified and discussed in detail.
