How energy transition and environmental innovation ensure environmental sustainability? Contextual evidence from Top-10 manufacturing countries

Muhammad Farhan Bashir et al.

Summary: Through the United Nations Climate Change Conferences, industrial economies have been urged to formulate stringent environmental regulations. This study explores the role of energy transition and environmental innovation on ecological footprint for the top ten manufacturing countries. The panel estimation methods confirm significant association across the concerned variables, indicating that environmental innovation, renewable energy, and energy transition have a significant negative association on ecological footprint.

Exploring the role of economic and institutional indicators for carbon and GHG emissions: policy-based analysis for OECD countries

Muhammad Adnan Bashir et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the impact of economic and environmental indicators on carbon and greenhouse gas emissions in 29 OECD countries from 1990 to 2018. The findings suggest that export diversification has a negative effect on carbon emissions but promotes greenhouse gas emissions. Institutional quality, economic growth, financial development contribute to reducing carbon emissions but increasing greenhouse gas emissions. In contrast, trade openness has a positive influence on carbon emissions but a negative influence on greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, urbanization is identified as one of the major factors contributing to environmental degradation.

Environmental sustainability and green technologies across BRICS countries: the role of institutional quality

Zeenat Zia et al.

Summary: In recent years, there has been a growing body of research on the relationship between the environment and economic growth. However, there is limited research on the impact of environmentally friendly technologies and institutional quality on pollution levels. It has been found that developed countries have been able to slow down environmental deterioration through sustainable environmental regulations, technological advancements, and improvements in institutional quality. In contrast, developing countries with limited modern technology have higher carbon emissions. This study aimed to analyze environmental quality by examining the effects of green technologies, institutional quality, and energy efficiency on pollution levels. The findings suggest that improving institutional quality, adopting green technologies, and enhancing energy efficiency can reduce environmental damage. The Environmental Kuznets Curve does not exist, indicating that pollution will improve with economic expansion in the selected countries. For a sustainable future in BRICS countries, institutional reform and increased investment in green technologies are required. The results have important implications for policy-making.

Striving towards sustainable development: how environmental degradation and energy efficiency interact with health expenditures in SAARC countries

Ruoyu Zhong et al.

Summary: This article extends previous studies by examining the relationship between CO2 emissions, sustainable development, energy efficiency, energy intensity, and health expenditures for SAARC countries. The empirical analysis shows that energy efficiency and sustainable development have a negative impact on health expenditures, while CO2 emissions have a positive impact. Furthermore, there is a one-way causative relationship between energy efficiency, energy intensity, CO2 emissions, and health expenditures, and a two-way causation relationship between sustainable development, economic growth, and health expenditures.
