The effects and safety of telerehabilitation in patients with lower-limb joint replacement: A systematic review and narrative synthesis

Summary: This systematic review examines the effects and safety of telerehabilitation in patients with lower-limb joint replacement. The results suggest that completing telerehabilitation provides similar improvements in physical functioning compared to conventional in-person outpatient physical therapy, without an increase in adverse events or resource utilization. However, the effect of telerehabilitation on physical functioning is assessed as heterogeneous and of moderate to low-quality evidence.

A scoping review of feasibility, cost, access to rehabilitation services and implementation of telerehabilitation: Implications for low- and middle-income countries

Summary: This study aimed to examine the feasibility, cost, access, and implementation processes of telerehabilitation (TR) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and high-income countries (HICs). The analysis of 29 included studies found that TR was feasible and cost-saving, and it improved access to rehabilitation services in both LMICs and HICs. Asynchronous methods using mobile apps were the most common mode of TR delivery. Barriers and facilitators were identified in terms of various factors, such as human, organizational, technical, and clinical practice related factors.
