Transmission scheduling for privacy-optimal encryption against eavesdropping attacks on remote state estimation

Le Wang et al.

Summary: This paper addresses the optimal sensor transmission scheduling problem in remote state estimation systems to protect state privacy in an energy-efficient manner. The problem is formulated as maximizing the eavesdropper's estimation error while guaranteeing a certain level of remote estimation performance under a given energy budget. The optimal sensor schedule groups encrypted transmissions and silent states closely, while the optimal energy allocation tends to prioritize transmitting encrypted text. The results are extended to an infinite periodic time horizon, and numerical results demonstrate the performance of the proposed methods.

SPrivAD: A secure and privacy-preserving mutually dependent authentication and data access scheme for smart communities

Abubakar Sadiq Sani et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that attackers exploit valid credentials and craft authentication request messages to evade authentication and access data illegitimately in smart communities. They can also spread malware and launch DDoS attacks by sending numerous authentication and data access requests. This paper proposes SPrivAD, a secure and privacy-preserving solution that enables mutual authentication and data access in smart communities. The approach utilizes a protocol called Inter-Attribute-based Zero Knowledge Proof of Knowledge (IA-ZKPK) and computational attributes derived from cryptographic operations to perform Mutually Dependent Multi-Factor Authentication and Data Access (MDMFA). The results demonstrate that SPrivAD is efficient, secure, and privacy-preserving.

Modelling soil organic carbon stock distribution across different land-uses in South Africa: A remote sensing and deep learning approach

Omosalewa Odebiri et al.

Summary: Soil organic carbon (SOC) is a critical indicator for ecosystem health and carbon management. This study used remote sensing and deep learning to model SOC stocks in different land uses in South Africa. The results showed the spatial distribution of SOC and its contributing factors. Grasslands had the highest SOC stocks, while urban vegetation had the lowest. Commercial and natural forests had higher carbon sequestration capacity. These findings are important for land-use planning and climate change mitigation in South Africa.

Incorporation of machine learning and deep neural network approaches into a remote sensing-integrated crop model for the simulation of rice growth

Seungtaek Jeong et al.

Summary: In this study, an innovative hybrid approach using machine learning and deep neural network regression techniques was developed to estimate the leaf area index (LAI) of paddy rice based on climate data. The random forest regressor was found to be the most effective LAI estimator, outperforming the deep neural network regressor. The study demonstrates that integrating machine learning and deep neural network regressors into crop models can accurately simulate LAI.

SAFE CONSENSUS CONTROL OF COOPERATIVE-COMPETITIVE MULTI-AGENT SYSTEMS VIA DIFFERENTIAL PRIVACY

Jiayue Ma et al.

Summary: This paper investigates a safe consensus problem for cooperative-competitive multi-agent systems using a differential privacy approach. A novel DP bipartite consensus algorithm is proposed, which guarantees that the DP strategy only works on competitive pairs of agents. Differential privacy analysis shows that the performance of privacy protection is positively correlated with the number of neighbors, establishing a practical method for agents to select their own privacy levels.

Modeling and Predicting Land Use Land Cover Spatiotemporal Changes: A Case Study in Chalus Watershed, Iran

Sepideh Jalayer et al.

Summary: This study detected the temporal and spatial changes in land use and land cover patterns in the Chalus watershed over the last two decades using multitemporal Landsat images and predicted future changes for the year 2040. The findings revealed a significant increase in agricultural land and barren area, and a sharp decline in grassland and forest cover. The model predicted a continued decrease in forest cover and an expansion of barren area, agricultural land, and built-up area by 2040. Understanding the spatiotemporal dynamics of land use and land cover change is crucial in minimizing destructive consequences.
