Identification and Characterization of Glutathione S-transferase Genes in Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) under Insecticides Stress

Ahmed A. A. Aioub et al.

Summary: This study identified and characterized GST genes in the fall armyworm S. frugiperda and evaluated the toxicity of emamectin benzoate (EBZ) and chlorantraniliprole (CHP) on the larvae. A total of 31 GST genes were identified, and SfGSTe10 and SfGSTe13 showed the highest expression after EBZ and CHP treatments. Molecular docking analysis revealed high binding affinity between EBZ and CHP with SfGSTe10 and SfGSTe13. These findings provide important insights into the detoxification processes of S. frugiperda regarding EBZ and CHP.

A tau class glutathione-S-transferase (OsGSTU5) confers tolerance against arsenic toxicity in rice by accumulating more arsenic in root

Madhu Tiwari et al.

Summary: Arsenic is a hazardous metalloid that hampers physiological activities in rice. In this study, the role of OsGSTU5 in arsenic tolerance was investigated. OsGSTU5 was found to enhance arsenic tolerance by regulating antioxidant activities and participating in arsenic chelation and transport processes.

Effective antioxidant defense prevents nitro-oxidative stress under arsenic toxicity: A study in rice genotypes of eastern Indo-Gangetic plains

Alok Kumar et al.

Summary: Arsenic toxicity has negative effects on the morpho-physiology, ionomics, and biochemical performances of rice, including reduced plant height, root length, and biomass, decreased chlorophyll content, impaired nutrient uptake and root-to-shoot translocation abilities. However, some rice genotypes exhibit higher arsenic tolerance, with sustained plant growth, membrane stability, and enhanced antioxidant enzyme activities.

Transcriptome analysis ofPlantago majoras a phytoremediator to identify some genes related to cypermethrin detoxification

Ahmed A. A. Aioub et al.

Summary: In this study, transcriptome analysis of Plantago major (PM) under Cypermethrin (CYP) stress revealed a significant upregulation of detoxification-related genes. DEGs related to cytochrome P450, glutathione S-transferases, and other pathways were identified, showing different responses to CYP stress in PM tissues. Additionally, enzyme activity of Cyt P450 and GST in PM under CYP stress was significantly increased, providing insights into the metabolic pathways of plants used in phytoremediation.

Arsenic contamination, speciation, toxicity and defense strategies in plants

Rohit Kumar Mishra et al.

Summary: Arsenic, a toxic metalloid, is widely distributed in the Earth's crust but human activities have led to its accumulation in the environment. Plants use enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants to mitigate arsenic toxicity, while hyper-accumulator plants survive high arsenic concentrations through conversion and compartmentalization.

Identification of Promising Genotypes Through Systematic Evaluation for Arsenic Tolerance and Exclusion in Rice (Oryza sativa L.)

Summary: Rice, a major staple food source, faces a threat from arsenic contamination in waterlogged paddy topsoil. A study identified suitable rice germplasm for arsenic tolerance and exclusion, with some genotypes showing high tolerance by excluding arsenic in the shoot system. This study provides insights into rice genotypes' performance under arsenic stress for breeding programs in polluted environments.
