Sodium hydroxide-enhanced acetaminophen elimination in heat/peroxymonosulfate system: Production of singlet oxygen and hydroxyl radical

Hengyu Cai et al.

Summary: This study enhanced the elimination of acetaminophen in the heat/peroxymonosulfate (PMS) system by adding sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and demonstrated that singlet oxygen and hydroxyl radical were responsible for the degradation. It also identified the degradation intermediates and proposed their pathways. The presence of chloride ion accelerated the elimination of acetaminophen.

Efficient degradation of tetracycline by singlet oxygen-dominated peroxymonosulfate activation with magnetic nitrogen-doped porous carbon

Shaohua Wu et al.

Summary: The study thoroughly examined the degradation of tetracycline (TC) in the constructed Co-N/C-PMS system, finding that the removal rate of TC reached 85.4% when Co-N/C and PMS were added simultaneously, with a higher degradation rate compared to using Co-N/C or PMS alone. The system was identified as a singlet oxygen-dominated nonradical reaction, providing a promising approach for eliminating TC in water treatment.

High efficiency heterogeneous Fenton-like catalyst biochar modified CuFeO2 for the degradation of tetracycline: Economical synthesis, catalytic performance and mechanism

Shuaishuai Xin et al.

Summary: The CuFeO2/BC catalyst showed higher catalytic activity for tetracycline degradation due to better particle dispersion and larger surface area, with optimal conditions being CuFeO2/BC-1.0, H2O2 concentration of 57.63 mM, and pH 6.27. Through experiments, it was demonstrated that CuFeO2/BC-1.0 has excellent reusability and stability.

High-efficiency degradation of quinclorac via peroxymonosulfate activated by N-doped CoFe2O4/Fe0@CEDTA hybrid catalyst

Lezhu Su et al.

Summary: A novel N-doped carbon support CoFe2O4/Fe-0 hybrid catalyst was in situ formed by coprecipitation and calcination process, which showed high catalytic performance in degrading persistent organic pollutants like Quinclorac. The Fe-0 could activate peroxymonosulfate and reduce Co3+ synergistically, while the N-doped porous carbon strengthened electron transfer for pollutant degradation. High degradation efficiency was achieved in the system with good magnetic recovery properties, making it an ideal catalyst for organic pollutants removal.

Insights into the multiple roles of Ca2+ ion in peroxymonosulfate activation over Mn2O3 for organic pollutants degradation

Xianjie Feng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of Ca2+ on pollutant degradation by Mn2O3 activated PMS system. It was found that Ca2+ efficiently promoted PMS decomposition and accelerated the redox cycles of Mn (III)/Mn(IV) for the production of reactive radicals, while also enhancing the negative charges of pollutants around the catalyst to speed up degradation. This work highlights a novel approach to improve the PMS activation system using nonreducible metal ions.
