Bradykinesia assessment in children with cerebral palsy and periventricular leukomalacia

Chrysa Outsika et al.

Summary: The study aimed to analyze the motor phenotype of children with Cerebral Palsy (CP) and periventricular leukomalacia (PVL), with a specific focus on bradykinesia. The results showed that bradykinesia was observed in 96% of the patients, mainly in the limbs. The severity of bradykinesia varied between the legs and arms. Bradykinesia was found to be correlated with functional level, dystonia, but not with spasticity.

Brain injury patterns in hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy of term neonates

Pratheek S. Bobba et al.

Summary: This study quantitatively and objectively characterized the location of hypoxic ischemic lesions in term neonates with varying severity of HIE. The results showed that mild and moderate HIE were associated with subcortical and deep white matter lesions along the border zones of arterial supply territories, while severe HIE also involved basal ganglia, hippocampus, and thalamus.

Emerging neuroprotective interventions in periventricular leukomalacia-A systematic review of preclinical studies

Thangaraj Abiramalatha et al.

Summary: This systematic review evaluates interventions in preclinical studies for their neuroprotective effects against PVL, highlighting stem cells, erythropoietin, and melatonin as potential therapies with promising outcomes. With most interventions showing only partial efficacy, it is suggested that future research should focus on combination treatments and personalized approaches tailored to different subgroups of preterm neonates.

Impact of Three Kinds of Early Interventions on Developmental Profile in Toddlers with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Francesca Cucinotta et al.

Summary: This study compared the impact of different types of early interventions on toddlers diagnosed with autism. The results showed that the Early Start Denver Model, an intervention based on naturalistic developmental behavioral principles, was more effective on children's developmental profile.

Determination of Predictors of Brain Injury in Very Preterm Infants - A Retrospective Cohort Study

Thangaraj Abiramalatha et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the perinatal risk factors for preterm brain injury and assess their strength of association. Based on a retrospective cohort study, severe intraventricular hemorrhage, culture-positive sepsis, prolonged ventilation, and small for gestational age were identified as significant risk factors for preterm brain injury.

School-age outcomes following intraventricular haemorrhage in infants born extremely preterm

Nicky Laura Hollebrandse et al.

Summary: Different grades of intraventricular haemorrhage (IVH) are associated with neurodevelopmental outcomes in children born extremely preterm at 8 years of age, especially grades 1 and 2. Increasing severity of IVH is correlated with higher risk of motor dysfunction, while grades 1 and 2 IVH do not significantly impact intellectual ability and academic skills.

Mortality and Morbidity of Infants Born Extremely Preterm at Tertiary Medical Centers in China From 2010 to 2019

Zhicheng Zhu et al.

Summary: The study found that infants born extremely preterm in China face an increased risk of mortality and morbidity, with a survival rate that has improved over time and a major morbidity rate that has increased. These findings suggest the need for more active and effective treatment strategies, especially for infants born at gestational age 25 to 27 weeks.
