Pelvic MRI for Endometriosis: A Diagnostic Challenge for the Inexperienced Radiologist. How Much Experience Is Enough?

Summary: The study investigated the impact of radiologist experience on the diagnostic performance of pelvic MRI for endometriomas and deep pelvic endometriosis (DPE). Results showed that even radiologists with up to 2 years of experience in female imaging had statistically inferior performance compared to experts in diagnosing DPE. The study concluded that interpretation of pelvic MRI for DPE should be performed by specialists.

Rectal endometriosis: predictive MRI signs for segmental bowel resection

Summary: Assessing MRI rectal and pararectal signs can accurately predict the need for segmental resection versus a more conservative approach such as shaving for rectal lesion management. The study found that specific rectal signs and the sacro-recto-genital septum pararectal sign were significantly associated with segmental resection, with nodular thickness and circumference being the most predictive signs. These signs, when combined, were predictive of segmental resection with an accuracy of 90.2%.
