Comparison of amino acid digestibility of soybean meal, cottonseed meal, and low-gossypol cottonseed meal between broilers and laying hens

Kai Qiu et al.

Summary: The study aimed to determine and compare the apparent ileal digestibility (AID) and standardized ileal digestibility (SID) of amino acids in different types of soybean meal, cottonseed meal, and low-gossypol cottonseed meal. The results showed that cottonseed meal and low-gossypol cottonseed meal contained higher levels of arginine and cysteine+methionine, while lower levels of lysine, isoleucine, leucine, and threonine compared to soybean meal. The AID and SID of most amino acids were higher in broilers than in laying hens, and there were significant differences in the AID and SID of amino acids among the three diets.

Effects of feeding levels on ileal amino acid digestibility of extruded full fat soybeans in nongestating sows

Ya Wang et al.

Summary: The effect of feeding levels on amino acid digestibility of extruded full fat soybeans (EFSB) fed to nongestating sows was investigated. Results showed that different feeding levels had no impact on the digestibility of amino acids, but did affect the loss of endogenous amino acids.

The intestine and the microbiota in maternal glucose homeostasis during pregnancy

Erica Yeo et al.

Summary: The intestine and its microbiome play a crucial role in immunological and endocrine regulation. This review focuses on understanding the mechanisms through which the maternal gut microbiota affects maternal metabolic adaptations during pregnancy. It discusses the role of incretin hormone GLP-1 and how bacterial components and metabolites can mediate the effects of the microbiota on host physiology. Additionally, it explores the potential changes in these pathways in disease states during pregnancy.

Dietary fiber in a low-protein diet during gestation affects nitrogen excretion in primiparous gilts, with possible influences from the gut microbiota

Min Yang et al.

Summary: The study found that dietary fiber supplementation improved nitrogen utilization and reproductive performance in primiparous gilts, while a low-protein diet negatively affected litter performance. Additionally, fecal microbial protein levels and excretion increased with dietary fiber supplementation, showing a potential role of microbiota in controlling nitrogen utilization.

Fermented Cottonseed Meal as a Partial Replacement for Soybean Meal Could Improve the Growth Performance, Immunity and Antioxidant Properties, and Nutrient Digestibility by Altering the Gut Microbiota Profile of Weaned Piglets

Xueling Gu et al.

Summary: The study found that replacing soybean meal with fermented cottonseed meal (FCSM) in the diet significantly improved growth performance, immunity, antioxidant properties, and nutrient digestibility of weaned piglets. This improvement may be attributed to alterations in gut microbiota and metabolism.
