Numerical simulation of the dynamic wetting of coal dust by spray droplets

Changwei Xu et al.

Summary: The dust particles generated during coal mining and processing are usually removed by spray dust reduction. The contact wetting and wrapping process of dust particles by droplets were analyzed under different particle size ratios and initial droplet velocities. The results showed that the larger the particle size ratio, the more variation in the spreading coefficient. When the particle size ratio was more than 2, the droplets could completely wrap the coal dust particles. The optimized parameters achieved an average settling efficiency of 86.2% for respirable dust in the mine return air duct.

Xiangjun Chen et al.

Summary: The study found that the influence of AEO9 on the wettability of anthracite coal was the smallest at a concentration of 0.5 wt %. XPS analysis showed an increase in C-O functional groups on the anthracite surface after adsorption of AEO9. DFT calculations and dynamic simulation results demonstrated that AEO9 could promote water molecule migration and enhance the thickness of the water molecular layer on the anthracite surface.

Study on the wetting mechanism of SDBS with coals of different ranks based on surface free energy theory

Junqing Meng et al.

Summary: This study investigates the wetting mechanisms of an anionic surfactant on coals of different ranks using atomic force microscopy (AFM) experiments and molecular dynamics simulations. The results show that the hydration film thicknesses increase and then decrease with increasing SDBS concentration, and high-rank coal has a thicker hydration film than low-rank coal. The study confirms that the electrophilicity of hydrogen atoms in oxygen-containing groups is the main factor determining coal's wettability, and for high-rank coal, van der Waals forces gradually become the dominant forces in the wetting process.

Study on the mechanism of polyethylene oxide groups improving the foamability of anionic surfactants in hard water

Chaohang Xu et al.

Summary: The study found that in hard water, sodium dodecyl ether sulfate with polyethylene oxide groups has better foamability compared to sodium dodecyl sulfate, as the EO groups can inhibit the combination of Ca2+ ions and SO4- groups at the air/water interface, improving the surface activity of anionic surfactants. An increase in the number of EO groups can enhance the strength of bubble film by enlarging the interfacial thickness and increasing the number of hydrogen bonds between surfactants and water molecules. Additionally, the distance between the EO group and the SO4- group affects the hydration of anionic surfactants.
