One-step purification of ethylene from acetylene and carbon dioxide by ultramicroporous carbons

Zhiwei Zhao et al.

Summary: The one-step adsorptive separation of high-purity ethylene (C2H4) from a ternary gas mixture (C2H2/C2H4/CO2) using camphor seeds husk-derived ultramicroporous carbons (CSHs) has been successfully achieved. The optimized CSH-2-700 exhibits high C2H2 adsorption capacity (2.24 mmol g(-1)) and record IAST C2H2/C2H4 selectivity (10.2) among one-step C2H4 purification adsorbents, due to its high heteroatom contents and centered pore size distributions. Moreover, CSH carbons selectively adsorb CO2 over C2H4, with a CO2/C2H4 selectivity of 1.9 under ambient conditions, making them promising adsorbents for one-step C2H4 purification from a three-component gas mixture.

Optimizing Acetylene Sorption through Induced-fit Transformations in a Chemically Stable Microporous Framework

Jinduo Tian et al.

Summary: A novel metal-organic framework (MOF) (FJI-H36) with adaptive channels has been developed for the effective capture and dense storage of acetylene (C2H2). The excellent adsorption performance of FJI-H36, including a record-high storage density and low adsorption enthalpy, is attributed to the synergism of active sites, flexible framework, and matched pores. FJI-H36 also exhibits excellent chemical stability and recyclability, making it a practical adsorbent for C2H2 storage.

Immobilization of Lewis Basic Sites into a Stable Ethane-Selective MOF Enabling One-Step Separation of Ethylene from a Ternary Mixture

Xiao-Wen Gu et al.

Summary: This study introduces Lewis basic sites into a C2H6-selective MOF for efficient purification of C2H4 from ternary mixtures, demonstrating high C2H2 and C2H6 uptakes and selectivities. The amino-functionalized UiO-67-(NH2)(2) shows exceptional performance by providing suitable pore confinement and functional surfaces decorated with amino groups for stronger interactions with C2H2 and C2H6. Breakthrough experiments with C2H2/C2H6/C2H4 mixtures under dry and wet conditions confirm the remarkable C2H4 productivity of UiO-67-(NH2)(2).

Creating Optimal Pockets in a Clathrochelate-Based Metal-Organic Framework for Gas Adsorption and Separation: Experimental and Computational Studies

Wei Gong et al.

Summary: In this work, a highly porous and robust metal-organic framework (MOF) called NU-200 was successfully designed and synthesized. Computational simulations showed that the hierarchical bowl-shaped nanopockets in NU-200 played a crucial role in enhancing the affinity for xenon. The unique pocket confinement effect was validated using a similarly sized probe, sulfur dioxide.

Amino-Functionalised Hybrid Ultramicroporous Materials that Enable Single-Step Ethylene Purification from a Ternary Mixture

Soumya Mukherjee et al.

Summary: Pyrazine-linked hybrid ultramicroporous materials show strong CO2 selectivity and outperform the first generation materials. The new aminopyrazine-linked materials exhibit reduced CO2 affinity but enhanced C2H2 affinity, enabling single-step production of polymer-grade ethylene from a ternary equimolar mixture. This performance is attributed to different binding sites in the new materials compared to the original SIFSIX-3-Zn.
