Precisely designed oxazolonaphthoimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine-based sensor for the detection of Fe3+and DCP with cell imaging application

Vishal Kathuria et al.

Summary: This article presents two new turn-off fluorescent sensors (V3 and V4) that have the potential application for precise detection of Fe3+ and diethylchlorophosphate (DCP). The sensors are designed with oxazolonaphthoimidazo [1,2-a]pyridine scaffold integrated with anthracene and pyrene-based framework, enabling twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) and planarised intramolecular charge transfer (PLICT) mechanisms. The V3 and V4 probes exhibit high sensitivity and selectivity for Fe3+ and DCP detection. The detection limits for Fe3+ are 14.1 and 4.5 nM for V3 and V4, respectively. Intracellular detection of Fe3+ using confocal live cell imaging is also demonstrated, highlighting the potential application of V3 and V4 for on-spot monitoring of Fe3+ and DCP, even in the presence of interfering analytes.

Electro-organic synthesis of C-5 sulfenylated amino uracils: Optimization and exploring topoisomerase-I based anti-cancer profile

Payal Rani et al.

Summary: Cancer is a global epidemic and a major cause of death. Existing chemotherapy drugs often have limited use due to their side effects, so it is important to investigate new drugs for cancer treatment. Researchers have developed an electrochemical method to synthesize a series of thiol-linked pyrimidine derivatives and tested their anti-cancer potential. The most effective compounds, 3b and 3d, showed promising results against breast and colorectal cancer cell lines, with IC50 values ranging from 0.98 to 2.45 μM. Further studies revealed that these compounds can intercalate with DNA and selectively inhibit human topoisomerase, validating their potential as anti-cancer agents.

Fluorescent Cu2+ sensor based on phenanthroline-BODIPY conjugate: A mechanistic study

Sudip Gorai et al.

Summary: In this study, a specific Cu2+ sensor was developed for the detection of labile Cu2+ ions in vivo, overcoming the challenge of interference from other biologically important metal ions. The new ligand exhibited highly selective detection of Cu2+ ions via a fluorescent turn off mechanism, without any interference from other metal ions. The sensing mechanism was investigated, confirming the formation of a 1:1 complex between the BODIPY-phenanthroline conjugate and Cu2+ ions. The ligand was also found to be cell-permeable and non-toxic, and showed potential for monitoring cellular accumulation of Cu2+ ions and detecting Cu2+ ions in serum samples.
