Dinuclear and tetranuclear group 10 metal complexes constructed from linear tetrasilane comprising both Si-H and Si-Si moieties

Yoshihiko Umehara et al.

Summary: The activation of Si-H and/or Si-Si bonds in organosilicon compounds by transition-metal species is important, but the preferences of group-10-metal species in this activation are not well understood. Here, it is shown that Pt(0) species selectively activate the Si-H bonds in a linear tetrasilane, while Pd(0) preferentially activate the Si-Si bonds.

Halogen-Exchange Reactions of Iminophosphonamido-Chlorosilylenes with Alkali Halides: Convenient Synthesis of Heavier Halosilylenes

Shintaro Takahashi et al.

Summary: Halogen-substituted silylenes play a crucial role in synthesizing silicon-based low-valent and multiple-bond species. This study presents a convenient synthesis for bromo- and iodosilylene supported by an iminophosphonamide ligand, expanding the limited reports on heavier halosilylenes.

Template synthesis of discrete metal clusters with two- or three-dimensional architectures

Yusuke Sunada et al.

Summary: Discrete transition-metal clusters with metal-metal or metal-oxygen-metal bonds are a new category of functional materials with unique properties. The synthesis of these clusters using template molecules allows for better control over the structural parameters, leading to more specific and superior catalytic activity.

Summary: A series of low-valent lead(II) species supported by an N,N'-di-tert-butyl-iminophosphonamide ligand have been synthesized and characterized. These compounds exhibit interesting structures in the solid state and in solution, and can serve as efficient catalysts for the hydroboration of benzophenone and benzaldehyde.

Silylene-Bridged Tetranuclear Palladium Cluster as a Catalyst for Hydrogenation of Alkenes and Alkynes

Chikako Yanagisawa et al.

Summary: A planar tetranuclear palladium cluster was synthesized from the reaction of a cyclotetrasilane with [Pd((CNBu)-Bu-t)(2)](3), exhibiting efficient catalytic activity for the hydrogenation of alkenes and alkynes. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and DFT calculations revealed that the tetranuclear framework was effectively supported by the bridging organosilylene ligand.

Summary: The N-heterocyclic silylene [Ph2P((BuN)-Bu-t)(2)]SiCl supported by an iminophosphonamide ligand was synthesized and showed unique coordination behavior with Rh-I complexes. Reactions with different equivalents of [RhCl(cod)](2) produced distinct complexes, including a 14-electron Y-shaped bis(chlorosilylene) Rh-I complex and a cationic tris(silylene)-Rh-I complex.

Summary: A novel three-coordinated tin(II) chloride has been synthesized and shown to act efficiently as a precatalyst for the hydroboration of aldehydes, ketones, and imines at low temperatures. DFT calculations have revealed the detailed reaction mechanism of the hydroboration process involving tin(II) hydride intermediates and tin(II) alkoxide intermediates.

Nuclearity expansion in Pd clusters triggered by the migration of a phenyl group in cyclooligosilanes

Kento Shimamoto et al.

Summary: Heptanuclear palladium clusters with six palladium atoms arranged in a planar configuration were synthesized through the reaction of [Pd((CNBu)-Bu-t)(2)](3) with Ph-substituted cyclotetrasilane or cyclopentasilane, involving phenyl group migration. The molecular structures of these clusters, as well as two possible intermediates, were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses.

Formation of silaimines from a sterically demanding iminophosphonamido chlorosilylene via intramolecular N-P bond cleavage

Shintaro Takahashi et al.

Summary:
The sterically demanding iminophosphonamido chlorosilylene [Ph2P(DipN)(2)]SiCl was synthesized and reacted with N- and Fe-nucleophiles, unexpectedly forming corresponding silaimine derivatives. This process involves the ring-opening rearrangement of three-coordinated silylene intermediates that proceeds via intramolecular N-P bond cleavage.

Summary: In this study, the reaction of a chlorosilylene with KN(SiMe3)(2) resulted in the formation of a silaimine instead of an aminosilylene. However, it was demonstrated that the silaimine exists in equilibrium with the corresponding aminosilylene through experimental methods such as variable-temperature NMR spectroscopy and trapping reactions with elemental selenium.
