Theoretical investigations of functionalization of graphene and ZnO monolayers with mercaptopurine at aqueous media: A dispersion-corrected DFT calculations and molecular dynamic simulations

Azadeh Aghahosseini et al.

Summary: This study theoretically investigated the adsorption of mercaptopurine on graphene and ZnO monolayer using first-principles simulations. The energetically most stable configuration was obtained with an energy of -1.412 eV. The adsorption of mercaptopurine onto ZnO was stronger than that onto graphene. The study provided atomic insights on the interaction properties of mercaptopurine with graphene and ZnO nanosheets.

Molecular simulation investigations on interaction properties of the teriflunomide-chitosan complex in aqueous solution

Sepideh Tanreh et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively investigated the noncovalent functionalization of chitosan with the drug teriflunomide through density functional theory simulations. The results showed that the binding of teriflunomide to chitosan is energetically favorable in aqueous solution, and chitosan has good solubility, making it a suitable nanocarrier. These findings provide fundamental insights into the interaction properties of chitosan-based nanocarriers and demonstrate the potential of chitosan as a carrier for teriflunomide.

Dispersion-corrected DFT investigations on the interaction of glycine amino acid with metal organic framework MOF-5

Mina Mostafavi et al.

Summary: The emerging field of nanobiotechnology focuses on the interaction between biomolecules and nanostructures to fabricate functional materials. This study investigated the interaction between glycine and metal organic frameworks (MOFs) using DFT calculations. Strong interactions were observed, and the formation of chemical bonds between glycine and MOF-5 was confirmed. These findings have implications for the development of nano-scaled drug delivery systems.

Theoretical assessment of the solvent effect on the functionalization of Au32 and C60 nanocages with fluorouracil drug

Mahsa Sabet et al.

Summary: This study investigated the interaction of 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) with Au-32 and C(60) fullerene nanocage using Density Functional Theory (DFT). The results showed that 5-FU had a stronger affinity for the gold-fullerene compared to C60. The role of dispersion forces in predicting interaction properties was also demonstrated. Furthermore, the study evaluated the electronic structures and molecular descriptors of energetically stable complexes. The findings suggest that Au-32 and C60 nanocages cannot be functionalized with 5-FU drug in a water environment at ambient conditions.

Theoretical treatment of interaction of pyrazinamide with graphene and h-SiC monolayer: A DFT-D3 study

Mona Daneshgar Moghaddam et al.

Summary: In this study, the functionalization of h-SiC and graphene monolayers with the drug pyrazinamide was explored using dispersion modified density functional theory calculations. The results showed that the combination of h-SiC with pyrazinamide was more effective for biofunctionalization compared to the pyrazinamide-graphene complex. These findings are important for the application of functionalized nano-bio materials in drug delivery and nano-bio sensors.

Adsorption of C6H6 and C7H8 onto pristine and metal (Pd, Pt)-mediated ZnO monolayers: Electronic and gas sensing properties

Lanli Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, the adsorption behavior of C6H6 and C7H8 molecules on ZnO monolayers with and without metal (Pd, Pt) mediation was systematically investigated through first-principles calculations. The results showed that metal mediation significantly enhances the adsorption ability of ZnO monolayers to C6H6 and C7H8 molecules, and can greatly modulate the band gap of the monolayer. The findings suggest that metal-doped ZnO monolayers have great potential as selective and sensitive sensors for C6H6 and C7H8.
