The challenge of lubricant-replenishment on lubricant-impregnated surfaces

Philipp Baumli et al.

Summary: Lubricant-impregnated surfaces are two-component surface coatings that utilize a scaffold to stabilize a fluid lubricant, preventing the attachment of immiscible drops. The depletion of lubricant can be caused by various mechanisms and strategies for replenishing lubricant include spraying, stimuli-responsive release, and built-in reservoirs. Improvements in scaffold design and chemical compatibility can help delay lubricant depletion.

Self-healing solid slippery surface with porous structure and enhanced corrosion resistance

Tengfei Xiang et al.

Summary: This study employed a hydrogen bubble dynamic template method to construct porous structures and infused stable paraffin to create a solid slippery surface, which exhibited a homogeneously porous structure and excellent anti-corrosion performance. The surface also showed good stability in NaCl solution, demonstrating great potential for protecting metal materials from corrosion.

Corrosion behaviour of X65 carbon steel under the intermittent oil/water wetting: A synergic effect of flow velocity and alternate immersion period

Wen Long Ma et al.

Summary: The study found that under intermittent oil/water wetting, short alternate oil/water immersion periods and low flow velocities can help reduce corrosion of carbon steel. Additionally, there appears to be a logistic regression trend between corrosion mitigation efficiency and oil/water wetting time.

Electrochemical Characterization of an Oil/Water Alternately Wetted Rotating Cylinder Electrode

Linxiao Zheng et al.

Summary: The vertically adjustable rotating cylinder electrode (VA-RCE) developed based on the concept of an alternate wetting cell allows continuous monitoring of the electrochemical current reflecting the wet state of the RCE surface at oil/water interfaces. The dynamic wetting behavior is influenced by flow conditions, with increased flow rate and alternating frequency making oil phase replacement by water phase easier. Results also showed that surface wettability of the VA-RCE can be modified by corrosion products.
