Cellulose gasification with Ca-Fe oxygen carrier in chemical-looping process

Genyang Tang et al.

Summary: Biomass-derived chemical looping gasification (BCLG) utilizes Ca-Fe oxygen carriers as catalysts to promote efficient lignocellulose conversion and hydrogen-enriched syngas production. Experimental results demonstrate the reaction mechanisms and synergistic effects of Ca-Fe oxygen carriers at different temperatures, providing insights for explaining their performance.

Thermal behavior and kinetics analysis from liquid chemical looping gasification of cellulose with bismuth-based and antimony-based oxygen carriers

Wei Guo et al.

Summary: Using liquid oxygen carriers is a promising innovative approach to solving the problems caused by solid oxygen carriers in chemical looping gasification. This study selected bismuth oxide and antimony oxide as liquid oxygen carriers, and analyzed the kinetics of liquid chemical looping gasification of cellulose. The results showed that bismuth oxide could significantly reduce the activation energy of gasification and had better performance as a liquid oxygen carrier compared to antimony oxide.

Iron Ore Reduction by Biomass Volatiles

Mauricio C. Bagatini et al.

Summary: The study investigates the reduction of iron ore by biomass volatiles and explores the steps involved, aiming for optimization of its use in the ironmaking industry. Reduction of iron ore occurred mainly by non-condensable gases from biomass pyrolysis at low temperatures and by carbon deposition at high temperatures, with the deposited carbon being more reactive than other carbon sources commonly used. The activation energy for carbothermic reduction indicates carbon gasification as the reaction-limiting step.

Negative CO2 Emissions for Transportation

B. C. Jaspers et al.

Summary: Negative emission technologies, particularly bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS), are receiving increased attention as a solution to climate change and global warming. A new approach involving biofuels, solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), and carbon capture is proposed to achieve carbon neutrality in electric vehicles (FCEVs), potentially leading to significant negative CO2 emissions. Incorporating carbon utilization technologies into this system could enable an infinite carbon cycle and potentially achieve substantial negative emissions on a larger scale.
