Complications and Survival After Lung Cancer Resection in Interstitial Lung Disease

Makoto Fujiwara et al.

Summary: The study assessed the relationship between surgical outcomes and HRCT patterns according to the 2018 guidelines. The results showed that UIP and probable UIP patterns were risk factors for postoperative severe acute exacerbations and death. Therefore, the HRCT patterns of the 2018 guidelines can be used to stratify outcomes of lung resection.

Risk factors for acute exacerbation of interstitial lung disease following lung cancer resection: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Xiaohu Hao et al.

Summary: The study identified male gender, usually interstitial pneumonia pattern on CT, higher levels of Krebs von den Lungen-6, lactate dehydrogenase, white blood cell, lower partial pressure of oxygen, greater scope of operation, and longer operation time as risk factors for acute exacerbation of ILD following lung cancer resection. These risk factors should be carefully considered in patient selection for surgery and postoperative monitoring.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the clinical characteristics and risk factors of ILD-AE in 165 RA-ILD patients. The results showed a significant association between the UIP pattern and the occurrence of ILD-AE and mortality.

Variability in Global Prevalence of Interstitial Lung Disease

Bhavika Kaul et al.

Summary: Epidemiological studies have revealed geographic variability in the prevalence and subtypes of ILDs, indicating the need for standardized research. Current literature is predominantly focused on Europe and North America, with limited data from South America, Africa, and Asia. Inclusion of community-based cohorts can improve estimation of disease burden and provide valuable insights for global trends in ILD research.
