Cu-Bound Formates are Main Reaction Intermediates during CO2 Hydrogenation to Methanol over Cu/ZrO2

Frederic C. Meunier et al.

Summary: Cu/ZrO2 is a promising catalyst for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol. Three different types of formates were observed under reaction conditions, with one bound to metallic Cu and the other two bound to ZrO2. The Cu-bound formate, representing only about 7% of surface formates, was found to be highly reactive and the sole source of methanol production. This study highlights the importance of quantitative IR analysis and transient methods in understanding the role of surface species.

Kinetics of CaCO3 decomposition at low CO2 partial pressure in a vacuum fixed bed

Wenfei Yue et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the kinetics of CaCO3 decomposition in a vacuum fixed bed and finds that the influence of CO2 partial pressure can be eliminated when the relative difference between equilibrium pressure and maximum CO2 partial pressure (Peq-P*CO2)/Peq is higher than 0.98. The intrinsic reaction rate constants of CaCO3 decomposition in vacuum are 1.05 x 10(-3) x 10(-3) s(-1) between 700 degrees C and 850 degrees C, and the activation energy of this reaction is 92.58 kJ/mol.

Uncovering the reaction mechanism behind CoO as active phase for CO2 hydrogenation

Iris C. ten Have et al.

Summary: Converting CO2 into valuable chemicals and fuels is a promising tool for environmental and industrial purposes. This study introduces a new catalyst consisting of cobalt oxide nanoparticles stabilized on various support oxides, which shows higher selectivity and activity in producing C2+ hydrocarbons through a different reaction mechanism.

On the link between CO surface coverage and selectivity to CH4 during CO2 hydrogenation over supported cobalt catalysts

Pauline Bredy et al.

Summary: An operando IR study reveals that the decline in selectivity to higher hydrocarbons over cobalt-based Fischer-Tropsch catalysts when CO is replaced with CO2 is mainly attributed to surface coverage effects.

The Pivotal Role of Critical Hydroxyl Concentration in Si-Rich Zeolites for Switching Vapor Adsorption

Mathieu Lions et al.

Summary: Efficient separation and catalytic processes in nanoporous adsorbents require fine tuning of gas adsorption in their porosity. This experimental study using Si-rich zeolites demonstrates the pivotal role of hydroxyl concentration in vapor adsorption, showing a transition from nonwetting to wetting as the hydroxyl surface density reaches a critical value. The concept of a critical concentration is extended beyond water to different polar substrates, providing a foundation for the rational design of hydrophobic adsorbents.

Selectivity loss in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis: The effect of cobalt carbide formation

Paul Hazemann et al.

Summary: The study showed that carburization is one of the potential mechanisms responsible for deselection in Fischer-Tropsch cobalt catalysts. After accelerated aging treatments, a significant loss of both activity and selectivity was observed, mainly due to the impact of carburization phenomena. The extent of carburization directly dictates the level of selectivity shift in the catalyst.

New Validated Diffuse Reflectance Infrared Fourier Transform Spectroscopic Method for the Quantification of Levofloxacin in Pharmaceutical Dosage Form

A. M. S. Alnaqbi et al.

Summary: The validated diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopic method for quantitative analysis of levofloxacin in solid dosage forms provides an eco-friendly approach with precise and accurate results. The linear calibration curve obtained in the study demonstrated high correlation coefficient and the method was found to be suitable for solid state samples. The proposed method showed good precision, accuracy and reproducibility, making it appropriate for quantitative analysis of levofloxacin in solid dosage forms.
