Multiphase Hydrogenation of D-Glucosamine Hydrochloride, N-Acetyl-D-Glucosamine, D-Glucose, and D-Maltose over Ru/C with Integrated Catalyst Recovery

Daniele Polidoro et al.

Summary: A multiphase system composed of two immiscible liquids and a catalyst was designed and investigated for the chemoselective catalytic hydrogenation of biobased sugars and amino/amido-sugars. The study showed that this method can improve product isolation and catalyst recycling, as well as prevent metal contamination.

Furfural hydrogenation over Cu, Ni, Pd, Pt, Re, Rh and Ru catalysts: Ab initio modelling of adsorption, desorption and reaction micro-kinetics

Rok Sivec et al.

Summary: In this study, the hydrogenation, hydrodeoxygenation, and ring opening of biomass-derived furfural were investigated using different catalysts. Pd/C was found to be the most active catalyst, while other catalysts exhibited selective aldehyde group hydrogenation and deoxygenation reactions. Thermodynamically, selective hydrogenation and deoxygenation were also favorable. By optimizing the reaction conditions, high yields of the desired products were obtained.

Tunable Multi-Phase System for Highly Chemo-Selective Oxidation of Hydroxymethyl-Furfural

Daniele Polidoro et al.

Summary: In this study, three different multiphase systems were investigated for the oxidation of 5-hydroxymethyl-furfural (HMF). The conditions for each system allowed for excellent control of the reaction selectivity and high yields of the desired products. The catalyst was efficiently segregated and recycled under all tested conditions.

Support-Boosted Nickel Phosphide Nanoalloy Catalysis in the Selective Hydrogenation of Maltose to Maltitol

Sho Yamaguchi et al.

Summary: A nickel phosphide nanoalloy supported by hydrotalcite demonstrated high catalytic activity for the hydrogenation of maltose, leading to efficient production of maltitol. Cooperative catalysis by the nanoalloy and the support played a key role in this process, enabling high-yield production even at ambient temperature. The catalyst showed promising performance in concentrated maltose solutions, highlighting its potential for sustainable production of maltitol.
